It doesn’t matter how nice the amenities are if a hotel can’t get the basics right. We were locked out of our room for 45 mins one night because of the door lock battery died. Getting stranded in the hallway after 9p is not my idea of a fun time. And problems didn’t end there. Our keys failed to work on two other separate occasions, and the battery had to be serviced again later. The front desk offered to move us to another room, but packing and unpacking in the middle of the night wasn’t an appealing prospect. With the door issues, as well as a snafu with the delivery of an urgent package, I would have expected the reaction to be: “I’m so sorry, let’s get this fixed immediately and make sure it doesn’t happen again.” Instead, the tone was weirdly bureaucratic and detached, with poor communication and follow-up after the fact. Some fees were eventually waived as compensation, which was appreciated, but I would have much preferred if this hotel had solid engineering protocols that prevented a door lock battery from failing on a guest in the first place.Rooms: Luxurious and clean, with a comfortable bed and linens.Nearby activities: The nearby north coast of west Maui is stunning if you’re open to some light hiking.Food & drinks: Prices are absurd for what it is. There are lots of other options within a 20 minute drive.Noteworthy details: The housekeeping staff was great, as was the engineering technician who was sent to our room (eventually) to fix the lock.

There are so many little hidden gems along the coastal trail by the property.

Went here for the Sunday brunch buffet, wonderful experience. Staff was quite attentive. Loved it, and the view was great.

We had such a magical time here in February 2024. The location is gorgeous, the attention to detail is amazing, the amenities are top notch. Most importantly, the staff is incredible. We have to give a special shoutout to our friend Marina at the ‘Olu Cafe. She made every day the best and taught me a lot about the local animals. We love you and miss you, Marina! I highly recommend this resort and a visit to Marina at ‘Olu Cafe! Also, we were part of a company incentive trip, so we must thank the amazing events staff for doing such a wonderful job for our group. They took care of us rain and shine!

My family and I spent a week at the Ritz-Carlton, Maui and it was great. It is an hour away from the airport in a beautiful location surrounded by greenery and gorgeous ocean views. The service is amazing — everyone truly goes above and beyond to make your experience great. I would like to specifically thank our room attendant/housekeeping, April M. She was so kind and kept our room tidy, as well as offering us hot tea and honey while my mom was dealing with a cold.Unfortunately, the food is overpriced for the quality that is offered. I would suggest planning and reserving restaurants off of the resort if you want great food at an amazing value, as Maui has some of the greatest seafood restaurants around. Secondly, the rooms at this Ritz are outdated. While the location is beautiful and the overall atmosphere is luxurious, the rooms need renovations to match the name and atmosphere of the Ritz.Overall, I would recommend this resort for the few exceptions regarding the food. Also, be sure to check on the weather because if you’re going to be spending $$$$, you should make sure the weather is adequate or else there will not be much to do. We were told that Kapalua gets a lot of winds and rains due to its location in comparison to rest of the island.

There’s something about the Ritz that makes it the best of its kind here on Maui.

5 star across the board. But expect to pay Ritz pricing (large markups) for everything.

Stayed 2 nights first weekend of March 2024.The main reason this hotel gets 3 stars rather than 5 is simply because it fails to deliver on the Ritz Carlton quality.Staff is very helpful. Always service with a smile. Grounds, pools, and building are great. But for me, the hotel did not feel like a Ritz. I would have given a higher rating if this was a Sheraton or a Westin.- rooms dated in general and have probably been due for renos 2 to 3 years ago.- no turn down service (unusual for luxury hotel)- breakfast buffet was very modest for $50 USD (pastries did not taste fresh, no jams, no cereals, limited selection of deli/cheeses, lack of variety of fresh juices/smoothies, etc...)- cheap slippers (rather than providing branded ones)- coffee shop/cafe was not staffed appropriately. Long line-ups in the morning with only 2 people working the register, making coffees and preparing food. Took more than 15 minutes to get served.- pool long chairs are not high quality. At least high end luxury hotels provide cushioned long chairs. So while I enjoyed my time, the food, service and the suite that I was in, I think they are cutting corners to save money. You can stay at the Westin Resort in Kaanapali and experience the same quality. While you won't be disappointed in general, don't expect a true Ritz Carlton standard.

From start to finish 5 star! We entered and were greeted with lays and juice. Even better, our kids were also greeted with lays and buckets for sand/beach! They loved it! The receptionist and bellhop were very friendly! Unfortunately, I'm allergic to feathers and had to have someone come change out all the feather bedding, but the guy was SUPER nice and attentive. Overall, our girls and us had an amazing day at the pool and can't wait to come back!! Also, the bartender Jack or Jax in the lobby bar was freaking awesome! I'd come back just for his service and drink making alone!

Kapalua, Maui Ritz-Carlton has been a wonderful getaway. Top notch property, service and food quality. At a time when most restaurants are cutting corners and charging more, every detail here is above and beyond excellent. What an amazing experience!
