No one was at the facility to receive returned cars on a Thursday evening at 6pm. Had to waste my time the next day calling multiple times to get them to realize that I had returned the car and that they needed to close out the contract

All good with the exception of having to wait in line for over an hour. Another remnant of the pandemic. Businesses are still having a hard time getting staff.

On arrival in Lihue, I stood in line at the Avis Preferred counter almost two hours behind only six or eight other customers. As I waited, 20 more came in behind me for the Preferred line and an estimated 40 more for the basic Avis line. All were appalled at the conditions, the apparent wait time, and the single Avis agent handling our reservations and car pickup. Two of those waiting (one in front of me, one behind) noted this wait was a repeat of their previous experiences at Avis Preferred in Lihue. After 17 hours of travel to arrive on Kauai, this was most unpleasant, and I will not repeat Avis rental there. On returning the car at the end of my visit, I shared with other passengers on the Avis shuttle my story of how unpleasant the rental experience had been at pickup. All had similar stories. Summarizing, what a nightmare.

I dropped off a van I rented in order to transport 4 people and luggage. When I returned it 11 days later around 6 pm on a Tuesday to Avis expecting to pick up a smaller replacement vehicle that I had rebooked and paid for, now that the other couple had left, I found out that Avis was closed and at first no one there( the people cleaning the returns) knew anything about how I would get my replacement vehicle. Eventually I found someone that told me to go to Budget to get my next car. Why wasn’t I notified of this change in pick up location by email, text, or through the Avis ap?

Car not clean inside and appeared poorly maintained. Also had dangerous cheap floor mats which slid dangerously between gas and brake pedals, we threw it in the trunk to avoid an accident. The interior ceiling fabric looked as if someone had a drink explode inside or more like explosive diarrhea. Customer service was great though but the location needs to try and spend a few more minutes cleaning.

Overall great experience. Quick pickup and drop off. Didn’t have to wait much to get a shuttle to the airport. The staff was pleasant and the whole process was seamless.

Great check in experience. Poor dirty old cars. They add surcharges and will tack on $32 in fuel charges even after returning the car filled up. Sxt was way better.

I've used Avis a gazillion times and it's usually a good experience and why the customer service was great and so was the vehicle, they always seem to take a good while to check you out whether it's a regular rental or the Preferred desk.

Wish I could give the Avis at LIH zero stars. Had to wait in line for an hour as an Avis preferred member. I have never experienced anything close to that. Didn't get an upgrade even though I had the coupon attached. Car was filthy, worn and unsafe. Tires were treadless. Will never use this Avis ever again.

The dirtiest rental car i ever had .Back trunk and inside are Not Clean.Very disappointed about how they handled this for renting . My past experience on Avis always good not sure this location has issues

Do NOT use Avis/Lihue on Kauai. They never answer their phone to answer questions. I tried over weeks and at different times of the day. The advertised free shuttle from ship to airport was not running as the driver was on vacation for ONE MONTH with no notification to anyone by text. We wasted valuable time, and my handicapped friend was exhausted waiting, then we finally had to pay for a taxi. Very rude and unhelpful ladies behind main desk at the Lihue Avis station. Not even a "sorry" for the shuttle not running. I will not use Avis again after this experience with them.

Took 1.5 hour to get a car. Stud in the fast line as i have President club for avis. The lady behind the desk saw me but yet call the guest from the long line and bypassed me. Thinking there was only one line i when to the long line. To find out another guest went to the same are i was in and was called. Not happy with avis.

Sadly, hardly any staff there. Those that were are so overworked and overwhelmed. My charges were wrong and no manager on site for Avis, so I walked to Budget as instructed but that manager in a meeting I definitely I was told. Never had such problems with National.

When I rented the car, I was unable to rent through Avis, had to use another vender as Avis was closed, the van was not full of gas, was told I still needed to return full, and when I returned I was unable to reconcile this with the person scanning cars and not taking time to hear my issue. I was stuck in line at the Avis return line, this was over 30 min, then I was charged for a days rental $55.54 after waiting in line to return the Van and feel this was completely inappropriate. There was no customer service at return to deal with either issue, I was only aware after my bill. So in addition to the extra days rental, I also was forced to pay at Hawaii gas prices the 1/4 tank that I was shorted at over $30.00.
