“A great shop to check out when visiting Makawao. The owner Janette is so kind and helpful and designs the clothes and the ‘Oh Baby’ jewelry. The prices are great, especially for the area where boutiques are quite pricey. I got handmade pearl earrings for my mom for a fantastic price. We really enjoyed talking to Janette and hearing her travel stories and learning some history of the city from her.”

Ash's store, The Portal, did not hesitate to amaze me with a variety of exotic gems that I read about, yet never seen in person. Some, he sets into very unique, high-end jewelry pieces. Floating diamonds, encased tsavorite, gorgeous neon Paraiba, and of course, Ceylon sapphire and Columbian emeralds. Just to name a few. If you step in, ask him to show you some of the pieces he has created- each as unique as your fingerprint. You won't be disappointed. The Portal is the gateway to a gemstone dreamland- and Ash is definitely the wizard. Incredible, incredible place.”
