“Thank you to Shirly who was generous with her time while helping my Mom figure out the best plants for her lanai. She was incredibly informative and full of patience as my mom asked so many questions. Shirly kept saying , 'Go with your heart' when choosing between plants. My mom chose 2 dwarf plumerias and several wild orchids. I highly recommend this plant nursery. I will add photos soon!”
“Warren is the best. He is a very genuine, honest and kind person. I bought a lipstick palm tree. He really took his time and helped me pick a beauty. It was such a positive experience. They wrapped it up real nice so the dirt wouldn't spill in my SUV.Don't waste your time going anywhere else, Warren is a one of a kind and the real deal.Im a customer for life. Love that Plant place !”
“A place to try a variety of exotic fruits. Don't forget to bring some utensils to cut/peel the fruit since they are benches and hand washing station available.
Also, this is more like a grocery store vibe so we just walked up and looked around. The staff are more than happy to help us pick the ripest fruit they are selling - because we wanted to eat them before we left Hawaii.”
“It can be really tough to find the right florist…someone you truly trust with your wedding’s floral design. I initially chose a different florist, but as the process unfolded, I began to have doubts. I decided to keep looking and ultimately found Plant Hawaii—and I’m so glad I did! Working with Scot and the entire team was an incredible experience from start to finish. They were excellent communicators, truly listened to our vision, and created stunning inspiration boards that perfectly captured our theme.
What stood out most was how collaborative and transparent the entire process felt. Their online portal was fantastic. It clearly showed each floral request, counts, inspiration photos, and costs. Their suggestions were beautiful and thoughtful. In addition, they were upfront about pricing every step of the way. These are two very important things to consider when selecting a florist. First, having an online portal made it incredibly easy to make adjustments together and immediately see changes reflected in the proposal. Second, clarity around flowers and pricing felt surprisingly difficult when speaking with other florists. Plant Hawaii stood out because they were so clear, organized, and transparent by comparison.
On the wedding day, Scot and his team arrived and immediately jumped into action. As a planner, coordinating vendors can be stressful, but Plant Hawaii needed no direction. They built a breathtaking ceremony arch, placed all aisle and reception florals, handed me the bride’s bouquet, and made sure I knew exactly where all the leis were. Everything was seamless and effortless.
Florals truly set the tone for a wedding, and Plant Hawaii delivered the most jaw-dropping tropical Hawaiian arrangements. The bride envisioned a sunset palette, and the team quite literally painted a sunset sky with flowers. Their attention to detail, artistry, and love for what they do showed in every single element. Mahalo nui to Scot and the Plant Hawaii team. We are so grateful to have worked together! If you’re considering them, don’t wait!! They are the best!!!”
“The selection variety of succulents is impressive along with being one of the few succulent growers on the island. The price for small two inch pot was $3 as of this writing which is cheaper than what you can find in town as they are the growers/caretakers.
Lynn (I think that is how you spell her name) is great. She is very customer service oriented and will only sell you the best that she has. You can pre-order how many succulents you want for events and she will set them aside/take care of them for you until the day of your event. She is also very knowledgeable about the plants and in general has a good energy and easy to talk to.
The location is behind a gated area, so you need to call the number to get in. She takes cash, credit card (for a fee), and Venmo for payment. Overall, I love that I was able to support this small business and get quality succulents for my events. Mahalo!”

“I hired Glad's Landscaping & Tree Trimming Inc to cut several very large branches of a banyan tree hanging 15ft over our property. Their price was very competitive. I hired them because they were licensed and fully insured which is important for a job requiring ropes and climbing. I checked that their employees actually had workers comp in addition to other insurance. Many companies told me they were licensed and insured but this is not always the case. A lot of times the owner of the company will have worker's comp, but not the employees. There are a lot of dangers in cutting such an overwhelmingly big tree and accidents do happen. There was a minor accident with my fence which got slightly chipped, but this didn't surprise me entirely considering this was a huge job - a tree of almost 40ft tall. They immediately fixed within a couple of days better than it was before. It was amazing to see their teamwork using ropes, pushing, pullng, and gently lowering each cut limb from 30 ft in the air. They had great customer service, were very professional, and did a great job.”
“The Valley of the Temples Memorial Park is a serene and culturally rich park on Oahu's North Shore. It features the stunning Byodo-In Temple, a replica of a 900-year-old Japanese temple, surrounded by beautiful gardens with lush greenery and tranquil surroundings. The park serves as a memorial site, offering a peaceful atmosphere for reflection and honoring loved ones, while showcasing Buddhist architecture and philosophy.”
“Great selection. Wonderful customer service. Affordable pricing. The pricing wasn't marked so I didn't know how much it was until I was paying. i would have bought more had I know it was so affordable.”
“Lovely place! Tons of flowers to pick from, fruit trees, etc. Kids had an awesome time picking fruit (thank you Lena!!) and looking at the tortoises and goats ? highly recommend!!!”

“The hubby had a vision for the garden, and for some reason crotons figured prominently in that vision. After reading reviews of nearby nurseries in Hawaii Kai and Waimanalo, I decided Yamashita was the most promising. (PS One of these days I'm going to do a nursery crawl in Waimanalo, there are apparently quite a few!)If you're coming from Hawaii Kai, it's the last left turn off Kalanianaole before you enter Kailua territory. You'll see a huge sign for another nursery - which is another good one. Take the left turn and about a quarter mile in, you'll see the sign for Yamashita's. Park outside - no parking inside the gate!Once you enter through the gate, stroll through the rows and rows of flora - not sure how big their property is, but it looks pretty extensive. We picked our plants and brought them to the office/shed to pay. The gentleman there was quiet but friendly and helpful - he'll help you load your bigger plants into your car.Don't forget to bring and wear a mask - it is outdoors and not many people there when we went but it's necessary when interacting with the owner and/or workers. Show aloha, not germs - wear a mask!”
“We were delighted with Mulkern Landscaping & Nursery. We wanted to redesign our landscape, including an irrigation system and an eclectic mix of plants that was relatively low maintenance. Both Kevin and Susan Mulkern really listened to our wishes, but also provided suggestions and insights from their years of experience. It was a continual negotiation of ideas (throughout the process, they never stopped listening to our ideas or confirming that we were happy with what was being done). As a result, we are elated with how our yard looks and continues to evolve. And so far, it has been taking us around 2-4 person-hours per week for the two of us to keep it maintained. For us, this is very doable, and we’re finding that, because the yard looks so great, it’s enjoyable as well.
Kevin’s sense of humor is from left field (or perhaps from outside the stadium altogether), so we laughed a lot and enjoyed being kept on our toes to get one of his asides. This made the process fun.
Another thing we really appreciated about Kevin was his respect and appreciation for his employees. Not a day passed without him telling them “Thank you” for doing tasks right or for asking questions to confirm that they knew what to do. The fact that he cares enough about his employees to let them know that he appreciates them is yet another reflection on the professionalism of Mulkern Landscaping.
He was also very creative about ways to save us money, including using existing plugs of grass to re-establish the lawn. The plugs looked to us like little chunks of dead grass, and we could not imagine that they would ever turn green, let alone fill out the whole lawn area, but it has only been a few months and we now have a full and beautiful lawn! Likewise, some of the plants were “babies” when planted (another money-saver), but they are growing taller and filling out really well.
Kevin also went beyond the call of duty. For example, he noticed that one of the neighbor’s trees was leaning well over into our space and shedding leaves and twigs onto our roof (up to that point we were regularly pruning back the tree on our side of the fence). He asked my permission to talk with the neighbor about it, and found out that the neighbor wouldn’t mind having the tree removed but didn’t want to pay to have it done. Kevin had his crew remove the tree, at no extra cost to us and at no charge to the neighbor.
Even though the work (and contract) ended, Kevin still stops by from time to time to make sure everything looks good and to see if we have any new questions or concerns.
In short, I enthusiastically recommend Mulkern Landscaping & Nursery.”
“TOP on my Favorites List for Nurseries! After visiting here you will never want to buy at retail price again. You can find there plants selling at Home Depot! Located in WAIMANALO you could use GOOGLE MAPS to help you find this place. Need to call for a reservation time and when you do the Aunty who answers will give you times there available! We visit 2x year for plants and get sometimes a 2 for 1 price in comparison to retail. Worth the drive! ?”
“Sometimes it's just one exceptional employee that can earn customer loyalty for life. After the experience I had at Sharon's plants, with the employee who is also a Japanese chef (apologies I can't remember his name, glen maybe?) Sharon's plants will be my first stop for anything plant. He was so nice and helpful! He helped me select native ground cover plants that were good for my area, and helped me select some dwarf mango trees. I could tell he loved his job so much and the entire experience was awesome sauce. Mahalo.”
