WARNING: REI sells returned safety equipment as new. We're members and shop REI 1st as the service expertise is excellent with good choices at reasonable prices. So I needed a ski helmet and got great advice on choosing one. Thanks! The rub...an obviously used helmet was brought out but was priced as new and not mentioned until I asked. It is not good at ALL selling used safety equipment! Damage might not be obvious per the Giro manual. I was offered a discount after pointing out this very obviously used helmet. So I downgraded my rating to a 4 and now to a 2. Unfortunately, there wasn't a new one in my size or black color so I planned on ordering it online from REI but found it cheaper on Amazon Prime. So it goes but I'll continue shopping at REI but being even more careful. REI really should reconsider this specific item/safety equipment category return policy. No comments so it seems they don't care much.

Very aggresive sales people. I can respect the hustle, but take a hint!Having to deny your stupid membership 4 times before I can pay and leave is the most irritating thing ontop of how much the sales floor associates tried to upsell me when I said time and time again what my budget was.Your sales tactics and agressive associates are the reasons I will never buy your membership and excessively marked up merchandise.

Amazing customer service!!! The woman that helped me with shoes (I wish I had caught her name) was super patient and helpful. She took the time to help me find the best fit in hiking boots and trailrunners. An extra shoutout to Haven for helping me get a jacket I’ve been wanting for a while. Thank you thank you! Best REI trip ever ?

Been a member for decades. I often purchase REI memberships for friends, but something happened recently, and I hope local and corporate address this.Took friend to REI shopping for camping gear, it was her first time in an REI. I planned to buy the items since it was her bday, and was also getting her a membership. A female Boise REI employee took my friend aside and said "don't let him get your dividend rewards." Of course my friend had no idea what dividends were. I could hear the employee do the sales pitch about cost, dividends, member benefits, etc. That's what they're supposed to do, I get it, sell memberships, but then she said, in a hushed voice, "is he forcing you to give him the dividend rewards on his card, don't let him take advantage of you, get your own membership and keep the 10% for yourself. Don't let him do that!"I could hear everything, and my friend later repeated the conversation. Maybe it's a fear tactic or the employee has her own issues about being taken advantage. We left the store empty-handed, my friend totally creeped out.I did go back and purchased that membership and then put the camping items on her card. Delivered on her front porch, and she has since purchased many items with her partner.Dear REI, please revisit the membership sales strategy with employees. Fear is not the best tactic.

Just got the new catalog with all the PRONOUNS listed for the clothing models. Can we cancel a lifetime membership? 40 years is long enough for me... this is not the community I want to be a part of.

The service department crushes it every time. Ben and the other staff are very knowledgeable and add much more value than a simple transaction.

Someone recommended REI to check out and test out the veer wagon. I called days ago and was told yea they have one I could test it just needed to be put together. So a few days later I drove 30 min there and they were so stuck up and rude. Told me I'd have to pay $60 for them to put it together, just to try it around the store. They acted super irritated and clueless anyway probably glad I told them nvm. He thought he was being funny when I was like "what you wanna take it around the block"Smartass?

Went in for a new commuter/travel backpack, and Dustin helped me choose one with a good fit/capacity. Very patient and friendly service and I got just what I needed!

Sales reps at Boise behave stuck up. Then pressure you to buy with high pressure sales tactics. Wouldn't recommend shopping here. Not a good shopping vibe, quite the opposite. Tells you a lot about management when you go into a store and the employees sound and act obviously fake welcoming. Perhaps they are just copying management's way of acting.

I needed a backpack for backpacking. They helped me by packing a couple different ones to try, helped me put them on correctly, and I could walk around the store to make sure it was a good fit!

I've been a member for over 30 yrs and today was my disappointing visit EVER. First I called to verify a return and when I arrived at the store I was informed by a semi-rude customer service rep there was a 1 year time limit on Darn Tuff socks and that i must go through the manufacturer now.Very different than the customer service from the original store in Seattle!
