Very quiet with a very good view of the bridges and the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. It isn't very well kept for a state park, but they do keep the grass mowed.

Cairo has got to be the most dismal place on earth. The park was pretty sad. Nice trees and grass was mowed. But everything else run down.

For those traveling around wanting to see the power of nature nothing speaks more than being at the spillway of three states at the point in the Mississippi

It's just a point at the confluence or the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers with picnic tables and a weird observation tower. Lewis and Clark practiced their skills here before their expedition. Lots of river traffic.

I love Ft Defiance Park because it has a sad beauty, at one time a military outpost where two rivers marked the boundary of the south and north. Later, a park that at one time had a snack shack, it spends a lot of time under water. Very quiet and peaceful when dry. Doesn't get a lot of use.
The building closest to the river was made to resemble a pilot house from a tug or riverboat. Climb all the way to the top (stairs available, not trespassing.) And you can almost get a feeling of being on the bridge of one of those old stern paddle wheelers.

While the fort was important to the military in 1862, it hasn't survived the broken windows theory that's spilled over from the dystopian-esque town of Cairo.
The fort is covered in graffiti and, while I love sketchy downs and danger, I worried about not having my car within seeing distance.

Such a beautiful state park! The confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers make this scenery so breathtaking! The history here is also a fascinating story. I didn't want to leave....

Old but clean. Lots of history in the area. Boat-shaped observation point. Kinda cool.
