Flimsy, badly-threaded Chinesium of the worst possible quality. Any time an old dude says, "There's a trick to putting this together," run far away. IKEA is better.

What a wonderful find! This place had a wonderful variety of pieces to choose from and I found the most perfect coffee table for a great price. Avis, who took care of me, was one of the nicest and most helpful ladies you could ever ask to meet. This will now be my first stop whenever I'm in the market for furniture!

Always friendly and never pushy when we’d come in and browse. We knew we wanted to buy from a local business, and they’ve been here forever.We finally stopped waffling and picked out just what we needed at a couldn’t-pass-up price.Was told delivery would be between 11-2, but in fact they were gone by 11:03.We’ll miss the Clark St. location and it’s Hippie vibe, but would gladly shop again.

Affordable Portables Is a family owned business with sense to treat all their customers like family!! You don't just get one sales person--you get a team trying to help you find what you need. They work hand in hand to give you personal service. They can also order items that aren't in the store. I had a futon mattress from them that lasted 16 years and a bed frame that could also be used as a couch--impeccably made. I bought gorgeous futon covers from them as well. They're exceptionally patient and not pushy. But above all, their inventory is cool and their ability to find interesting furniture, lamps, etc. is so very creative.

I went in here Saturday with my mum to pick out a comfy, "floppable" couch for my little apartment and found exactly what I was looking for thanks to Val! The whole experience was wonderful from start to finish and I can't wait to have a place I can finally get cozy in. 10/10, would recommend to anyone and everyone!

An update:I was delighted with my purchase of my mattress, box spring and metal headboard. However, I was negligent in checking for the side straps on the mattress used to flip the mattress. That was my one and only disappointment. I am very satisfied other than that. I want to let those looking to purchase a mattress to check this if it might be a problem. Nameste.

The first time I purchased furniture from Affordable Portables was in 1995, when I moved to Lincoln Park. Fast forward 27 years later, and I went there again when I needed furniture for my rental -- I never even looked at other furniture stores, either brick and mortar or online ones.The store is unpretentious and the people working there are down-to-earth, so don't expect an ingratiating manner (which doesn't mean they don't care about you and won't oblige you in finding the furniture that suits your needs and budget). I spent four whole hours there, consulting endlessly with Valerie, who took the time to advise and guide me through several rooms of furniture, as well as with Barry, who really knows his stuff. I am very pleased with my purchases. A word about the delivery people Manny and Jim: They're excellent -- professional to the utmost, courteous, helpful, patient when asked to explain something. The entire experience from start to finish was excellent, just as I had remembered from before.

The couple who runs this store is so sweet and extremely knowledgeable on how to decorate a home! They also don’t judge when you buy a bright orange couch LOL! Jim & Manny the delivery guys are also so kind and generous! I will absolutely buy more furniture here in the future. 11/10 stars!!
