The Greater Chicago Food Depository is Chicago's food bank, at the center of a network of over 800 partner organizations working to bring food and hope to their neighbors across Chicago and Cook County. The Depository addresses the root causes of hunger with job training, advocacy, and other innovative solutions, as a proud member of the Feeding America network. Truck drivers delivering to the Depository report a smooth and efficient process, with staff waking them up for check-in around 6:30 AM and the unloading completed by 7:30 AM, even for deliveries with multiple products. Volunteers praise the wonderful staff, great facility, and meaningful mission, describing it as a "great place to volunteer" that provides a "wonderful experience everyone should do." Visitors highlight the Depository as a place to gather information, learn, and engage in meaningful projects with the help of kind people. While some argue that altruism should be rewarded, the Depository's focus remains on its mission to serve the community and address the root causes of hunger in the Chicago area.
