Powell's Books Chicago is a unique and intriguing independent bookstore located in Hyde Park. It features vertical book shelves and a variety of topics, including literature, poetry, children's stories, science fiction, and biblical commentary. The selection is thoughtfully curated, appealing to both serious readers and casual book lovers. Collectors will find a noteworthy collection of antique books, though prices may be on the higher side. Many customers appreciate the reasonable prices for used books, with some claiming to buy multiple titles for under $100. While the store has a socialism section and previously included anarchism, it now offers a mix of political literature. Although some reviewers mention a lack of selection in certain academic texts, Powell's remains a beloved gem for bibliophiles, with a constantly rotating stock that invites frequent visits. Overall, it is highly recommended for anyone looking to explore a diverse range of reading materials.
Most precious book store I have visited in ages! There is something for everyone here, and the prices are very, VERY fair! Antiquarian, bird, graphic, Chicago, historical fiction, you name it, it’s here!

Every time I visit Chicago from St. Louis, I always stop by Powell’s. The staff is amazing and the prices are great. The best thing is the wide selection of used books available. This place needs to be on everyone’s radar.
