“This type of store is exactly what I'm looking for. They have a huge selection of adorable things that completely captured my attention. This is a really nice store with a lot of really cool Mexican-themed items!! In addition, the owners were quite welcome and polite. It is a small shop, but there are loads of hidden jewels, which is why you will not be disappointed if you come here because all of their products are well worth your time and money. I bought a pair of earrings to present to a friend as a birthday gift the last time I visited, and they are just gorgeous. I also purchased a number of greeting cards to send to friends. You should come here since there's always something interesting going on. I completely agree with some of the reviews on this site that everything is so unique and that (I believe) the most of stuff is manufactured in the area. It's unquestionably a fantastic place to seek for adorable gifts. Highly recommended, and I will definitely be back here again the next time I am in the area!”

“I discovered this gem when I moved to Chicago in 2006. I got my first artificial Christmas tree here and could only afford that and a few ornaments at the time. It still remains my favorite store for holiday decor and one-of-a-kind gifts to this day. I shop here every year for holiday decor because I can’t get ornaments or decorations like this anywhere else. The service is stellar. Staff have totally put up with me calling to order products even now that I’ve moved to Colorado. Thank you so much for making my collection, so big and special.”

“What a lovely shop, with an even lovelier proprietor! I've been visiting metta baby down the street for the last few weeks, and when I've passed Virtu it piqued my interest. Today I was at metta baby for a CPR refresher so I finally had the opportunity to head down the block and check it out. The owner had opened it a few minutes early because when I got there at 10:58 (they open at 11) there were already a few people in and she joked that perhaps she should open at 10.She was super friendly with everyone in the store and very helpful. There were a couple folks with whom she was talking about the being a business owner (they were also business owners), and the business climate in Bucktown. She was joking around with some other customers about some funny cards that she carries. When I was looking at the various jewelry cases she has throughout the store, she let me know right away that if I wanted to see anything to let her know, and she told me about some of the designers that she had in her shop. I really enjoyed talking with her, and I'm almost ashamed I didn't get her name. Her passion for her business and local businesses in general, as well as her dedication to truly providing fantastic and thoughtful service to her customers was palpable. Virtu's proprietor is the epitome of why I LOVE to shop local; oftentimes people at mass merchandisers, whilst hard working and helpful, don't have the same sort of pride, flexibility, and ethos of care that a local business owner does.I visited a couple days before Halloween, and she mentioned that after the holiday she'd start putting out the Christmas merchandise which is already waiting to make its debut. I think she also mentioned that she has extended hours during the holiday season. I'm excited to stop in once she's in the holiday swing to see what I can find here for friends, loved ones (and who knows, maybe even myself), and maybe even something special for my little one's first Christmas.”

“Good store for postcrossing. Lots of gift shops don't supply postcards for whatever reasons, but Transit Tees has a good variety of Chicago themed cards. My only wish is I use multiple stamps when exchanging postcards internationally so wish the description text was positioned differently since the stamps will cover the text sometimes. “I would like to start my review by saying "HELLO DARLING." This was an interesting shop for me because I was unsure whether this shop would have anything for me. But, upon suggestions, I ventured to this shop. I was in this area previously but never knew that there was a hidden gem (shop) in the area. Where were you "The Darling Shop"? Upon entering the store, the store associate welcomed me by placing a white disco ball necklace around my neck (I felt like I was given a medal for partying hard lol) and handed me the goodie bag. She was sweet and patient. As a part of the event, the goodie bag had white disco ball necklace, pink disco ball drink tumblers, facial cleansing wipe, nail polish and some stickers. She explained to me a little history about the store. It blew me away when I knew that this store sells their goods from local area small businesses, people etc. The Darling shop is a stage for all these mini businesses where every product is made with minute detail. This was my first surprise. The store had party stuff, women's fashion, baby stuff was on the right side from the counter, home goods, sunglasses on the left side to the wall and many more. There was one section where they had various kinds of greeting cards. There were a variety of things in the store. My first look was that it was a store for women but as I went around for a bit then it was eye-catching when I saw they had a small section for men which was my second surprise. They had Men's accessories, clothing, and grooming. Upon looking, I bought a black pair of socks for myself. To sum up, the store was cool with such a variety of daily goods. I could not get to meet the owner NIKKI, but the store instantly gives you happy vibes with all the positive quotes around the store and for the stuff they are selling. I also checked out their website which was great, but the only recommendation is it would be nice if the font color is white (other color) on top and bottom of the website as it can be more visible. I would recommend my friends to explore this store. Lastly, for me, THE DARLING STORE = INSTANT HAPPINESS.”
