“What a gem of gym? I've had a number of gym memberships from the low cost Planet Fitness-type gyms of the world to the fancy-pants FFC's of the world and its no competition, Ferrara Pan Fitness Factory is my favorite hands down for a number of reasons:#1 its just a really cool, industrial yet modern gym. Portraits of great athletes and service-folks line the walls. I feel like Rocky Balboa when I walk in.#2 its not a chain, its local: the staff really care about its success. They keep it really clean.#3 family oriented: Kids are welcome. Many kids taking boxing classes while mom or dad is working out.#4 the variety and diversity of people that workout (the members): a variety of fitness-levels from professional body-builders to boxers to just moms and dads and their kids trying to loose some weight. Young people, old people, men, women, and children. It's just a gem.#5 all the trainers are so nice and so helpful and just amazing whether or not you are training with them or not#6 all the classes are amazing (boxing can be intimidating for beginners but they make the experience super welcoming)#7 tons of resistance training equipment: racks, benches, tons of free-weights, essential machines, just a ton of room, machines, and equipment for just about every exercise you need to do. They even have a set of gymnastics rings hanging from the ceiling with plenty of space to do whatever.#8 tons of cardio equipment: Regular treadmills, curved no-motor treadmills, 2 types of bikes (some with rowing), row machines, pull-down row machines, plenty of jump ropes, weighted vests and you won't believe how many heavy bags are available: you can even borrow boxing gloves to hit the bags with.#9 a full-size boxing ring. Yes, an actual professional ring.#10 opens early (4AM)#11 reasonably priced#12 It's a hidden gem: You can't tell from the outside how big the place is inside.”

“I love the German Forest Park. It’s very clean and there’s more chess workout equipment so you can get a good chest workout. The only thing I don’t like about it is the staff is not as friendly as they were when I first joined the gym. It seems like they greet you when you come in, but they don’t greet you when you come out and if you’re not known by the staff, they don’t really talk or interact with you but they at least can say bye when you’re leaving or have a good day thank you for coming in. I know that’s a big part of my job. I work at Ace Hardware and I’m a store manager and customer service one of the biggest part of my job so maybe they can work on that but other than that I don’t have any issue with the gym. It’s a really good gym I like it.”

“I’ve been a member of Coalition for a year now, and I couldn’t be happier with my experience. The entire team is amazing—knowledgeable, supportive, and truly invested in helping members improve. The instructors bring both expertise and enthusiasm to every class, ensuring a great workout while also making real-time adjustments to movements when needed. Their attention to detail and commitment to proper form make a huge difference.

Beyond the workouts, what really sets Coalition apart is its culture. The environment is welcoming, inclusive, and motivating, making it a place where all fitness levels can thrive. It’s clear that the community here is built on progress, encouragement, and growth. I’m looking forward to many more years as part of this incredible gym!”

“This gym was my personal intro to CrossFit. I had been out of a fitness routine for many years since having two kiddos. They made it accessible, low key and fun to get started. It’s inspiring to see folks of all ages and fitness levels supporting one another and pushing their bodies to build towards personal goals. I am almost two months in and so happy with my progress. I recommend this gym to anyone but especially those with a positive attitude who want a very nice community to get stronger with! ????”

“If I can give this club a higher star, I would! I joined think fit not too long ago and it’s the only gym that finally brought motivation into my life again to begin my fitness journey! Zee, the owner of the club, is absolutely amazing and makes everyone feel welcome! By far, the cleanest gym in the suburb! I recommend Think Fit to everyone! If you’re looking to get motivated and fit asap, think fit is the club for you.”

“I recently attended a class at Moonshot CrossFit and while it pushed me out of my comfort zone and left me feeling some soreness, I had an absolute blast. The class was well-designed, with a good balance of cardio and strength exercises. What truly stood out, though, was the ownership's enthusiasm and support. They created a welcoming atmosphere and encouraged everyone to give their all. Despite the pain, I left feeling accomplished and eager to return for more. Highly recommend!”

“I have so many positive thoughts about this place I don’t know where to start. This is easily the best gym I’ve been to since I started working out in 2016. The community and staff are unmatched, truly feels like a big family. From the day I walked in seeking a membership I felt extremely welcomed. As a female it’s hard finding gyms where you feel respected and not stared at by creepy old dudes and I immediately noticed a difference in mentality here. Everyone has a mutual respect for one another, everyone reracks their weights/cleans equipment. They have some newer booty builder equipment that isn’t found many other places as well as a posing room! The ONLY reason I left was we due to relocation issues and I’m so upset I had to leave ? this gym has me contemplating an hour drive just to be back somewhere I feel happy calling home”

“Was traveling into town for a trade show & hit up Rockwell Barbell. If you're a strength sport enjoyer this is the gym for you. All the competition equipment an athlete could look for from calibrated plates to fun gear like bands & chain Rockwell has it all. Lawrence was easy to deal with and his gym is a personification of his support of strength sports. Any gear or equipment you can need (boards for bench?) is abundant, didn't have to wait for a single item. If you're debating the trip to get there.... don't, you won't regret it. If you like jacking steel, it's the place to be in Chicago!”

“Ive been coming to the Garage Gym heavy AF classes for 6 weeks now and absolutely love them! I was previously just doing one class a week and purchased the five pack, but I decided to move forward with a membership to start going multiple times a week because of how much I’ve enjoyed the classes! All of the instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and kind, and the people who attend the classes are also great and motivated to work hard. I highly recommend this gym if you’re looking to get stronger and healthier!!”

“CrossFit Park Ridge is easily one of the best gyms I’ve ever been part of. The environment is super motivating and welcoming. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the energy. The community is amazing! Everyone’s friendly, encouraging, and genuinely wants to see each other succeed.

The programming is excellent. It’s well thought out, challenging, and can be adapted to any fitness level. You’ll get stronger, faster, and more confident with every workout. The coaches are great too! knowledgeable, supportive, and always paying attention to form and safety.

The equipment is in great condition and really well taken care of. The space is clean, organized, and there’s even a good outdoor area for runs, which adds something extra to the workouts.

One thing I really appreciate is how many class times they offer. There are a lot of early morning options, which makes it easy to stay consistent no matter what your schedule looks like.

Overall, this is a great place to train, meet solid people, and push yourself. If you’re thinking about trying CrossFit or switching gyms, I highly recommend!”

“Excellent, 24-hour, old-school iron gym. A day pass is $17. They have a little bit of everything from fat-grip dumbbells to belt squat. There are two separate buildings a half block apart. One for upper body and one for lower body.”

“This is a family owned and operated gym, which helps to create a very unique vibe. There is a very connected, neighborhoody feel about this gym. This atmosphere, which has been cultivated by owners, staff, and area patrons, is difficult to replicate in a big-box, chain gym. Aside from the overall vibe, I like that the people at Elite are upfront with regard to their pricing. There are no guessing games. Their rates are listed on their Web site. They also offer a ten punch card so you can try out the gym before you make a commitment. Those who workout at Elite seem to be connected members of the local community. I find that the clientele is friendly, respectful, and fitness-focused. Lastly, the gym is located in a very cute area of Western Springs. There are several local businesses nearby that you can visit before or after a workout. It's also important to note that parking has never been an issue for me at Elite.”

“I cannot say enough great things about Mercedes! She helped me get my body back postpartum and feel stronger, mentally and physically after navigating being a new mom. She fosters a sense of community at her studio, and she goes above and beyond to try and make things work for you if possible. If you want results, you have to put in the work— there is no babying, but Merced’s is the person that will push you to get there. She is worth every penny and sore muscle”

“Orangetheory is customizable no matter what your fitness level. No one is yelling in your face to "go faster" or "lift heavier." The coaches are supportive and helpful to ensure proper form. There is a gamification element with the different zones and aiming for that perfect pyramid post-workout. It's fun, challenging, and gets you sweating!”

“Love this place! The coaches are so nice and they make the workouts fun. The space is perfect for the gym too, big enough to hold class and even a semi private area when running is scheduled. If you are in the area and looking for a place to drop in, this is the spot! Scott, the owner is a nice to work with too; really friendly and helpful.”

“I have had memberships to gyms in the past, but I've never felt like a belonged as a member until Hardware. Not being familiar with most of the concepts was intimidating only until I walked in the door for the first time. The coaches are all incredibly knowledgable, friendly, and helpful. There's a great Foundations class specifically for those who are new to the fitness world. Every class begins with a friendly conversation and inquiry about how people are feeling and if anyone needs specific instruction or modification due to injury or other reasons. This is an inclusive environment in all ways. There is truly no judgement whether you're 20 or 60, fit or not, first-timer or crossfit veteran... you're treated as part of the Hardware community and that feels awesome. The workouts are good and tough (though scaled for each individual as needed). And there is enough variation to keep you from getting bored. They are well designed to help advance your fitness level without being too overwhelming. I never thought I'd be able to do a rope climb or a toes-to-bar (or most of the things we do in class) but yet now I can. Each class has a well crafted warmup and post-workout stretch with a true focus on preventing injury. This is also something I appreciate a lot. It's not about tough workouts and pushing yourself to the limit, it's about doing those things safely and correctly to avoid injury. It's been over a year since I've been a member and I have never seen anyone tweak anything or get injured.I look forward to every class (even at 6am) and am so thankful I found Hardware!”
