“They have great szalami but buy direct from them - local distributors in my area always sell the products past their freshness date and stale paprika and over-fermented szalami ruins the experience”

“My wife decided that we would use the Kababs that her dad would get for special occasions during a family meal. We drove out to prospect heights from Antioch and got 4 each of the beef and chicken kababs. They were VERY pleasant and helpful. Lovely folks. The kababs were the BOMB! I grilled them per the instructions given by the people at ascot and they were tender and delicious. Definitely will visit again. Highly recommended.”

“Under new ownership as of August 2023. Very friendly and accommodating staff, the food is terrific and the menu has expanded. Don't pay attention to the older negative reviews, the previous manager of the restaurant no longer works there.”

“While walking around town, we decided to stop by a local butcher shop for some goodies to make for dinner. We stumbled upon Al's and decided why not check it out! When walking in, to the right you'll have the authentic Italian pastas and the assortment of sausages in the freezer. The center of the store has a variety of condiments, most of which were sauces and rubs for barbecue. The remainder of the store were the meat counters. Al was helping us when we checked out. Please keep in mind it is cash only but there is an ATM in the store for your convenience!”

“Head Cheese is just like my Grandfather used to make and introduced me to around 1969. I would like to have some raw Onion added. But the flavor, texture, appearance is all spot on.”

“I used to love the chicken salad, croissant deal. Lately the chicken salad has changed. More celery ( I don't like celery) but worse, lots of hard grizzle pieces. Nearly every bite has inedible hard pieces. I hance to keep spitting them out. Some are very large. Ugh.”

“Amazing authentic Mexican food. I spent a lot of time in my early years in Texas. When we moved to midwest, we couldn’t find any authentic Mexican food. Get the rojo pork tamales, either at the hot food section or the cold food in the fridge. They taste like homemade with perfect spiciness. Love it! Even the tamales served at the nearby Mexican restaurant, close to Jimenez couldn’t make delicious juicy and spicy tamales. I ordered Quisado Puerco at the taqueria, simply delicious and comforting. Huge portion, you can have 3 servings out of this giant portion. I’m still in disbelief that authentic Mexican food can be found here in the grocery store taqueria. A pack of 6 hot tamales at the hot food section is $7.99 and the same exact 6 cold tamales at the fridge section is $6.99. The tamales were so juicy and full of meat. Couldn’t be happier to find this hidden gem.”

“With all the inflation that is a daily reality-- this place gives you a huge variety-- great quality-- and I am very fussy-- and the real advantage here is-- that you can use just what you want that night-- and leave the rest in the freezer. My favorite is the seafood-- which is so hard to find at a reasonable price point. The scallops are DIVINE! The real test of freshness is when they have a slight sweetness to the flavor. Just put in a ziploc bag-- place in cold water-- and before you finish your salad-- they are ready to cook-- which never takes long-- like 3 minutes-- longer-- they will be shoe leather. Their jumbo pink shrimp from Florida are a favorite go to. From a cocktail to salads, to tempura for the old fashioned fish fry-- they are delicious. So is the flounder. Want some nice dessert fir that romantic dinner? Try the individual cheesecakes or the French donuts filled with chocolate and hazelnut ganache. Don't forget the key lime pie. At first I was a bit skeptical about a store where everything is frozen. Now I am saving money with no waste, and having some very nice dinners. No more wondering what to do tonight-- just make a nice salad, and raid the freezer. Whether you are planning a dinner for guests, and need a short cut-- or live alone-- give this place a try. You won't be sorry.”
