Account here. Used to take change and deposit there until they took out their change machine. Banks won't take change anymore, legal tender. Think about that for a minute, but I digress. Since they stopped taking change, stopped putting money in this account. Today in the mail received a statement showing TWELVE MONTHS OF FEES BEING DEDUCTED IN ONE STATEMENT for being a dormant account. Hey, I don't mind if you let me know in advance, or send a statement with ONE months fees removed--but TWELVE? Really beyond the pale. It never occurred to anyone at the bank to reach out, call, email--even though they possess all that information. Went to the bank and the best they could do was reverse $15 in fees. How is this even LEGAL? I believe the next move is find congressman's website to complain.

Where to begin.....? I was with 5/3 for years, since before they were 5/3. They used to be Illinois Marine bank where I grew up, and I continued with them when they became 5/3. I had a mortgage there, and when I relocated to Hoffman Estates, IL I found a personal banker who was terrific. Because he was so great when my fiancee refinanced her home, she went there. Fast forward to now--the branch we worked with has closed, that terrific personal banker is gone, and we now work with the location in Lake Zurich, IL. We have been trying to refinance the loan since the rates have dropped and our credit has improved, and we are now in the SIXTH MONTH of waiting for it to happen. We have been asked a FOURTH TIME (!) to provide proof of income, bank statements, etc, and the credit has been checked YET AGAIN---last time it knocked our credit rating down 20 points! I have called and spoken to the bank manager, who is useless---nothing happens. I wanted to talk to the boss of the mortgage banker who is "handling/making excuses for not completing" our refinance, and have received no call backs. We want to go elsewhere at this point but fear yet another hard credit inquiry against our credit. The excuse being given is "the underwriters have it and they are swamped"---yet somehow they need duplicate info provided?? I am about to go to the bank in person but fear the wife would need bail money by the time I am done. Thankfully our savings are at Harris bank so if I do need bail money it shouldn't take 6 months to get to that! Lesson to be learned: It is quicker to request a loan from a foreign bank in a foreign language than to expect Fifth Third to complete a simple refinance for qualified customers. I will be thrilled when we take our mortgage business elsewhere!

Not a user friendly mortgage lender. Makes on-line access difficult and calling access almost impossible without jumping hoops. There is not a automatic voice payment feature available. My original lender sold the mortgage almost immediately to Fifth Third (County) Bank. I would never have chosen them and will recast loan elsewhere

Been banking here several years. Very competent and friendly staff. Best customer service ever.

If you choose to open an account at Fifth-Third Bank STAY AWAY from the LAKE ZURICH branch. They have the WORST customer service at any of the Fifth-Third branches. They recently went from MB to Fifth-Third but same crummy customer service. This is the only branch that never answers the phone and the personal bankers are rude.

Can't believe when 5th Third bought out MB bank that they kept those two unfriendly tellers who pretend to be busy so they don't have to help the next customer in line. The only thing I can think is it's so hard to find new employees that something is better than nothing.
