I literally found this place by accident while looking for an EV Charger. Since I needed a place to stay for the night I got a room too. What a happy accident! Beautiful property and very gracious hosts. It was honestly my best hotel experience in recent memory. I hope to get back there again. Loved it!

I've been staying at Makanda Inn since 2013. I live about an hour from this location, and use my time there to decompress and reconnect with nature. It's an achingly beautiful property, and I highly recommend staying in the cottages. Makanda Inn is the epitome of honest and affordable luxury.
Rooms: I usually book Indigo for myself or The West End Cottage for small groups of friends or business. Indigo has a phenomenal deep bath, perfect for decompressing. West End is a dual cottage that has two bedrooms. Both Indigo and West End have king sized beds and full kitchens. They keep cooking utensils and everything you need to prepare your own meals. They also provide kindling and firewood for an amazing campfire experience.
Nearby activities: There are countless wineries in the area. There are also local activities like zip lining, and horseback riding nearby.
Walkability: It's very accessible. There's also a trail from the cottages to the inn, and it's just a couple minute walk.
Food & drinks: They have always offered an amazing breakfast, included with your stay. You are also allowed to purchase from a nice selection of wines in their collection.
Noteworthy details: Don't make excuses, just go. You'll leave refreshed and feeling recharged. Makanda Inn is magical, and the staff makes you feel like family.

We spent a long weekend at the Inn when the family had to return to Carbondale for a funeral. Despite that, we had a lovely time at the Inn which is in a beautiful setting, stylishly appointed, immaculately clean, and an all around wonderful place to stay. We rented two of the cabins and one room in the main building. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating, the breakfasts plentiful and tasty, and the prices are so reasonable. If you find yourself in this part of the country don’t hesitate to stay at the Makanda Inn. You won’t be sorry.

Fantastic place for a quiet getaway. We plan to go back. They serve wonderful breakfasts!
Rooms: The bed was comfortable. There was a nice spot to sit and enjoy the beautiful surroundings just outside our door.
Nearby activities: There are unusual shops in Makanda making for a calm place to wander.
Safety: Totally safe, even when storms came through.
Walkability: There are fantastic places to walk while enjoying the natural environment.

Very pretty country lodge in a quiet wooded location, except for the times freight trains would pass by on the nearby old Illinois Central railway.
The river rock shower floor is attractive, but the rocks are not flat and are too far apart, which made showering in my bare feet quite uncomfortable. I like to believe shower shoes are not necessary in the places I choose to stay, but they would have been helpful at the Makanda Inn.

I wish I could give it 6 stars! My wife and I stayed at the Makanda Inn for a weekend getaway. The area is home to some amazing hiking at Garden of the Gods and Giant City State Park quite literally across the street not to mention many local wineries & shops. The Inn is a beautiful, natural place to stay for a weekend. We relaxed, reconnected and enjoyed the Inn in our beautifully appointed suite. Breakfast was amazing each day too! This area has so much to offer, we feel like we only scratched the surface. We will be back for another trip next year and we're bringing friends!

So happy we found this "Sweet Spot!" Perfect for our getaway. Quiet, relaxing, quaint. Rooms are great, with very comfortable beds, extremely clean, and more than adequate. Hosts were very welcoming, attention to detail, and excellent service. Breakfast meals were very tasteful and large servings with great service. Will are already planning our return visit!

This is a wonderful place to get away and relax. It's very close to so many things to do. It's also a perfect setting to just enjoy the quiet of nature. We stayed in the Black Walnut Suite which was so nice and comfortable. Shwana and Dave are wonderful hosts!

We highly recommend the Makanda Inn! They could not be more friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. The facility is fantastic and great for relaxing, and as a home base while exploring Southern Illinois. Every day we enjoyed the breakfast provided prior to heading out for the day.We took advantage of the outdoor area, the fire pit and the grill. If you're headed to Southern Illinois - you won't find a better place to stay!

This is an absolutely beautiful inn in a pretty location. Once we discovered it, we always stay here when visiting our daughter in the area. It's a unique place.
