About Starved Rock State Park Campground
Starved Rock State Park Campground is a nice campground with pretty and well-maintained sites. The sites are very big with plenty of space in between, offering lots of privacy, though some are tiny with very little privacy. The campground has fire pits with grills and electric hookups. It is eerily quiet after dark with great security and a gate that closes at 10. The staff is helpful, friendly, and nice. The campground is a few miles away from the actual state park, so driving to the trails is necessary. The campground has two loops. The west loop is pretty open with some trees for shade and has vault toilets. The east loop has thick trees with lots of shade and privacy but uses porta potties. Restrooms and showers need lots of improvement. Pit toilets are terrible. One shower house had units out of service, leaving only one shower for an entire loop. There are not very many water taps. Nearby activities include trails and the cute town of Utica.
