The West Cook YMCA is a fitness facility that has been serving the community for years. While it may not be a five-star establishment, it offers a decent range of amenities and services to its members. The facility is generally well-maintained, with clean equipment and a well-organized layout. The cardio machines are up-to-date, and the weight-lifting equipment, though limited, is sufficient for most members' needs. The indoor track, though small, is suitable for warming up or light running. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the childcare option is a valuable service for families. The membership fees are also very reasonable, making it an accessible option for those looking to stay active. However, the facility has faced some challenges, particularly with the swim lessons program. Some members have expressed disappointment with the lack of progress and the reversion to the basics during each session. Additionally, the limited swim times available for adults have been a drawback for some. The facility has also faced concerns regarding the locker room situation, with reports of a man showering and walking naked in the area where children change. This issue has been brought to the attention of the staff, but it appears that more needs to be done to ensure the safety and privacy of the members, especially the younger ones. Overall, the West Cook YMCA provides a decent fitness experience, but there is room for improvement, particularly in the areas of swim lessons and locker room management.
My son has been learning to swim at the YMCA west cook. The program is one of the best swim programs in the state.
