Huge thanks to Jake at the REI store in Orland Park IL who fitted my backpack recently. I just finished the Camino de Santiago (Frances) which is almost 500 miles from Saint Jean Pied de Port (France) across Spain to Santiago de Compostelo. I had bought an Osprey Kestrel 38 online a couple of years ago and I wasn't able to get it comfortable enough to use it, so I continued using my old pack which was a 65L on 2 other Camino's. I was determined to pack much lighter this time and decided to take my Osprey to the REI store in Orland Park IL to see if they could help me. Jake helped me by making all the necessary adjustments for a great fit. We loaded it as well to make sure it was comfortable before I left the store. THANK YOU JAKE!!! It was a huge difference in making my Camino a great experience.

Ot is an okay store. Like the fact that they recycle a lot of items. However a lot of stuff is still very expensive. Helpful service.

Mike was absolutely Amazing! He is knowledgeable, professional, informative, friendly and kind! He helped my husband with new running shoes who lived them so much, he paid for them while he was wearing them! We can't wait to have Mike help us with future purchases. Don't forget to join the REI Club! Lots of specials, discounts and great deals!

Some of the people are great there, and it’s a shock that they don’t have everything that ultralight hikers thru hikers would really like to carry like zpacks, outdoor vitas waymark Etc.the are the few brands they can carry not your typical osprey all the time. And most the time I can find it at other places for the same price, and it gets sent to my house

Worst REI that I've ever been to.- Very small, almost non-existent shoe section.- Unhelpful employees; all talking in groups, ignoring the customers, which is absolutely not what I expected from REI. (Usually the employees are amazing and go out of their way to be helpful.)- Very little stock / selection of everything elseI'll make the trek to Oakbrook in the future.

I came into the store to purchase two new pairs of athletic shoes. I am a nurse and my coworkers recommend ON and I wanted to try them for myself. The salesman steered me away from them and kept insisting on different brands and never offered to try them on. When I explained I wasn't interested in the others and I wanted to just try the ON shoe, he made a very rude and condescending comment to me. He told me to "just pick a color because that's all I am interested in". I was extremely offended and left the store without making any purchases and found what I wanted somewhere else.

Employees are too pushy. I was watched like a hawk from the moment I walked in so the employees can "help me find what I'm looking for." Sometimes I just want to browse, but it seems like it's every employee's mission to help you find the ONE PRODUCT you were looking for and get you out. If left alone, I may have bought more. But I felt stalked so I quickly left. I don't know why salespeople and their managers don't realize that they lose sales with these "hover" tactics.

I would never go back to the Orland Park location, perhaps will never shop REI again. I went looking for shoes and the associate was EXTREMELY pushy, they did not have my size he kept trying to push the membership down my throat. Although they did not have my size the associate honestly thought I was going to purchase shoes that were too small and the membership. I purchased the correct size shoes online and they never did work out. I went back in to the store to return them since the online portal allowed me to start a return. The manager was smirking in my face and was so excited to tell me they wouldn't return them since "You should have signed up for our membership". No thanks, I will sell them on OfferUp and never shop here again. He can keep laughing about not authorizing a return and I will continue to laugh at the fact that he will most likely be underemployed when the store goes out of bushiness. I will shop at Zappos and Nordstrom instead.

This review is for a member of the staff at REI in Orland Park Illinois. Ethan was outstanding he was friendly and knowledgeable and patient. He answered the many questions we had regarding E-bikes and the transportation of them in regards to weights of the bikes and limits on the carriers. REI is lucky to have such a great staff member. I would recommend this store and hope you get the opportunity to work with Ethan.

Great store for all of your outdoor needs. The staff was great and very welcoming. Despite it being a small location, they manage to pack it with multiple essential items.

We stopped through for a quick visit on our way to the airport for our trip out west! What a surreal and heartwarming experience--I think we met our family or something reincarnated as these employees. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming and knowledgeable! I swear, we walked in expecting to buy freeze dried food and by the end we wouldn't have been surprised if one of these lovely folks invited us on their next camping trip. We got advice on must-sees at our destination, recommendations for vegetarian camp meals, and someone willing to ring us up twice so we could get a better discount. By the time we got to the checkout, the cashier had already heard about our plans from another friendly face we talked to. It felt like something out of a movie. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for knowledgeable nature folks or even just some pleasant human company.

was an absolutely AMAZING experience at REI. my first time there, and needing equipment for a conservation trip i was going on. Jake was great in helping me find the perfect backpack, he even measured me to find the correct size! Brian in shoes was also great at helping me find different boots and answered many questions. One of the BEST experiences I’ve had at a store, and i’ll be coming back! Thanks REI!!
