Anderson Japanese Gardens, a non-profit public garden in Rockford, Illinois, celebrates its 25th year in 2023. Recognized as one of the highest quality Japanese gardens in North America, the 12-acre landscape has been transformed over decades with the guidance of designer Hoichi Kurisu, featuring elements of stone, landscape, and water. The garden showcases master craftsmanship and 16th century architecture, offering visitors a place of peace, tranquility, healing, renewal, and inspiration. Guests can hike, meditate, and experience the seasonal beauty, with the best times to visit being May and October. Although there is a cover charge, the experience is considered worth it, with reasonable prices and free parking. The docent-led tours are informative and suitable for small groups. Visitors describe the gardens as serene, beautiful, and peaceful, with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Super cute, peaceful garden. Not very big, so you can walk it in 2 hours at a slow pace. They do have a path that is handicap accessible. The little ponds are filled with ducks, koi fish and baby catfish. They also have benches hidden away for privacy. Perfect spot for a date or one on one.
