Cherryvale Mall in Rockford, Illinois, is a convenient spot for shopping and a quick trip, offering a range of stores to suit various interests. It houses popular retailers like Macy's, JCPenney, Hollister, H&M, Hot Topic, and Barnes & Noble. The mall features a food court, a game zone, a candy store, a play area for kids, and many mini-vendors, creating a very lively place at times. However, many reviewers feel it is a shadow of its former self, having died out in recent years. Since the closures of anchors like Bergner's and Sears, and following COVID, the overall experience has deteriorated. There are now empty storefronts, a noticeable lack of foot traffic, and some areas feel outdated or a bit run down. Some specific areas, like the play area, are noted as filthy. The atmosphere can be lackluster, especially on quiet weekdays, and some feel security discriminates against younger people. While still a decent spot for essentials or a stroll, it is no longer the vibrant, go-to destination it once was, with many wishing for more stores and later weekend hours.

We spent an afternoon at this mall and found it easy to navigate. The variety of stores made it enjoyable. Compared to other malls, it felt more relaxed and less crowded. It’s a comfortable place to spend time.
