“I can’t say enough good things about Spex Auto Repair and Hand Carwash on Dempster. The owner takes care of you like he’s your uncle—completely honest, thorough, and never trying to upsell. Their prices are easily 25–30% less than the dealership, and you can just drive up and get work done without the runaround.
I came in for an oil change and while I was there they also swapped out my filters, fixed a rattling exhaust cover, patched a tire with a nail in it, and buffed my headlights. On top of that, they cleaned the engine, battery, and under the hood, plus cleaned my car inside and out.
I left feeling like my car had been totally refreshed in under an hour - all at a fair price and without any stress. This place is a gem—I highly recommend it!”

They still have the $4 car wash that includes free vacuuming, and the vacuums are incredibly strong (too strong, honestly).”

“I owned a 2020 Ford Expedition that I didn’t use very often, so I decided to sell it. Before taking it to CarMax, I went to Lucky’s Car Wash for a full detailing. The owner advised me not to spend money on a full detail, explaining that CarMax wouldn’t offer a higher price even with buffing or waxing. Instead, he recommended a regular wash with engine bay cleaning for a much lower cost. The staff worked very hard, and the owner himself helped clean and wipe the car. When they finished, it looked just like the day I bought it—spotless and shiny. I really appreciate their honesty and professionalism. He could have charged me more, but instead he helped me save money. I’ll definitely be coming back. Thank you!”

“I like this convenience store quite a lot.Most of the 7-Eleven‘s and other convenience stores around here are staffed by Middle Eastern people, who - bless their hearts - tend to range from not friendly to actually quite rude.This station is staffed by Latina women who are, in my experience, overall quite charming. I speak only a little Spanish, but Latino people tend to be extremely forgiving of bad Spanish - and grateful that you attempt to talk to them in their language. This is quite different from the way we Americans treat Latino people whose English is not, by our standards, up to par.The station is only a couple of blocks from the Best Buy store on Howard. I recently purchased the Best Buy Total Tech Protection plan, which is - in my humble opinion – one helluva good deal for an entrepreneur/free-lance writer who needs tech support.I have spent most of last year and a half roaming through the Western North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains - and then rural Tennessee, Kentucky and Indiana - where Best Buy stores are as rare as hen’s teeth. As long as I stay in Chicago, I intend to make big use of that Tech Support package and walk into the store for face-to-face support as often as I can.Whenever possible, I intend to patronize this store for my $1.09 coffee and my gas.”
