This REI store is clean and the staff friendly. They seem fully staffed with someone easily accessible to answer questions in every department. This store has a large selection of things to purchase for outdoors. There is a lot to choose from with bike gear and repair. Replaced a tire for my husband's Cannondale wheel here. Service was fast. I always find something random to buy here.

Horrible service. Literally had TWO people start to help me with shoes and then go help a more affluent looking woman. I sat there quite awhile and decided just to leave.

Stopped in with my son after we had lunch at Shake Shack next door (which is consistently awesome BTW) Cool enough store loaded with amazing sporting merch. The snarky jaded, self-important, fake-centric sales staff were absolutely comic. One clown in the bike dept felt compelled to warn me I was looking at and admiring a customer's bike that was in for service stating "that's a customer's bike" rather than the traditional hi, can I help you? etc or showing me new bikes for sale LOL...This in addition to the condescending side eyes of the sales staff as we browsed. Mind you we didn't buy anything, so touché, but lot's of posturing and swagger from a bunch of retail sales people pulling $18 an hour.

REI started off with Kayaking classes where were amazing and then extended to a bike class and multiple visits to the bike store, all classes are very detailed and thorough. The staff here are amazing and very courteous, am yet to see a staff who wasn't polite / not in a good mood which itself I believe speaks highly of the staff and the company

First time ever visiting an REI (co-op) it's a really big store with everything luxurious any outdoorsman would need from shoes, even used ones to hiking, camping, biking etc. Even practical things I never even thought of as well overall I enjoyed my visit though the prices here are way out of hand but it is in a very upscale area. Overall as nice as the staff is, it wasn't the best experience

Today, I had to make two trips to your shop due to purchasing a stove with four major defects. As a result, I had to replace it with a new unit. I kindly requested a discount or any form of appreciation for the inconvenience caused. However, the manager did not address my concerns and didn’t even meet with me in person, which I found to be disappointing. As a loyal Co-op member who has made significant purchases at your shop, this customer service experience fell short of my expectations. In the future, I may consider exploring alternative shopping options.

Yesterday Saturday, May 20, I went to REI in Vernon Hills in the afternoon around 5:00 pm to ask for assistance in assembling my son’s tricycle that he received as a gift; when the person in the service shop came to talk to me, supposedly the mechanic that was at that time was RUDE to us he asks me where I get that bike from. I told him that my son got it as a gift. Then he said that I should return it because that bike was garbage; that was a brand he never hears of before and that he was not even touching it. And that wasn't worth it to get it together and invest money doing it. I felt so frustrated. I told him again that it was a gift someone got for him and I couldn't go to that person and tell him I don't want his gift because it was too cheap and not a good brand. And when I was leaving, he offered to come back some other day to show me a good kind of bike to buy. And I responded to him that I didn't need a fancy bike that is for my son, who has disabilities and can't ride a two-wheeler bicycle, and my son only rides it around the block. Why can people be so offensive and inconsiderate sometimes?

Everyone working at this store is SO friendly and SO educated on the products. It was an absolute pleasure shopping at this location.

The prices at this place are absolutely ridiculously stupid and one of the main reasons is they have way too many employees working. I couldn't even walk in the door without getting mobbed by two different people so we are nice enough to ask for them to point us in the right direction and when we got to that department, there was three people waiting to assist us. I got so annoyed. I walked over to shoes to get away and there was three different people in the shoe department and within 25 seconds all three had asked me if I had been helped yet. Some people might enjoy that but sales pressure from eight people in a matter of three minutes was so annoying and then $80 pair of shoes cost $189. 6 people tried to sell me an REI membership that had no real benefits. Aggressive staff pushing expensive products and selling memberships. People buying stuff were just not strong enough or too polite to tell them to leave them alone. I wonder why I had never been before. Compare it to a free session at a gym and the sales pitch for a gym membership after. Many people don't have the backbone to walk away and end up with an unused gym membership. Most people walk away from REI with an overpriced so-so item and a paid membership they will never use. I did not. I will never go back.
