Based upon local billboards, Interra is apparently quite proud of the volume of consumer mortgages written. Unfortunately, in my experience, they place far more value on volume than quality of product or services. I regrettably, endured a nearly four month mortgage process filled with inconsistent statements by their agent along with what I consider either to be ethical violations or perhaps even outright fraud. The process began with an excellent agent however after not hearing from her for a number of weeks, I learned she was no longer affiliated with Interra. I was then assigned to another agent resulting in deplorable service levels filled with confusion and disorganization. Examples include receiving a written proposal from the agent stating she has been approved by her supervisor to provide a longer mortgage term than we requested. I spoke to her supervisor who was very adamant that I do not want the longer term. Ok…. So where did the longer term originate? Another example include the agent failing to provide an appraisal of the property then threatening to suspend closing unless I agree to sign the form stating I have reviewed the appraisal….. which at that point remained unavailable to me. Ultimately, I would strongly encourage those individuals shopping for mortgages to explore all provider options rather than risking the poor quality service from certain Interra mortgage department agents. I’ve utilized a number of on-line mortgage providers through the years and the worst on-line lender far exceeded the service levels provided by Interra. As a side note: I have also utilized the business lending side of Interra and unlike the consumer side of Interra, I have found the business side to exhibit unparalleled levels of professionalism coupled with a true desire to provide ethical service levels. For Interra’s sake, I hope my experience with the consumer lending side of Interra was an unusual event -

I try to contact customer service to get my card unlocked and they’re no help whatsoever. Everytime it’s a different person and not one has tried to help. It’s rather frustrating and that’s how I’d describe this Bank in general. If you’re thinking of opening an account here don’t bother. You’re better off anywhere else.

Don't even bother. Never respond to voicemails or emails.

I called because of a discrepancy in my account. I was put on hold for a bit before a woman named Angela answered, didn’t even let me finish my sentence before she said there’s nothing they can do. I asked how we could come to a solution and she hung up. Terrible service

Made the mistake of signing a loan with them. They have done nothing but mismanage it and misallocate my repayment for almost 10 years now AND meaninglesly jack up interest rates to DOUBLE the national average. All of this while I've not missed A payment the whole time and have paid beyond minimums fir most of thaf. Meanwhile , the customer service when you call is ATROCIOUS if it exists at all. Absolute societal leeches, all of them. You're not considered a person here.
EDIT TO ADD - the response they posted below is more response than I've had from them in years.

Horrible horrible horrible bank. Enables scammers and cashes fake checks to senior citizens being scammed. My 72 year old grandma got scammed via a fraudulent check that interra CASHED and instead of being accommodating and loyal to their 30+ year customer they’re making her pay back every dime. CHRISTINE from the goshen fraudulent department spoke to my grandma like she was an idiot and told her that interras fraudulent department won’t use their insurance to cover this. I stopped using this bank years ago due to all of the random fees. Nate from the goshen interra was very respectful to my grandma and recommended her case to be reopened by the fraudulent department because the check should have NEVER been cashed in the first place and the machines should have spotted the fake check from the scammer that scammed my grandma. Absolutely ridiculous, disrespectful and disgusting company.

There’s shouldn’t be a MASSIVE fee when your account goes a little in over draft. I get it that sometimes we shouldn’t allow our accounts to go into the negative but life happens and the next check makes up the difference. But when I have to worry about a fee that charges no matter how small or big the over draft is immediately it’s ridiculous. 37$ is INSANE.. Please change this. Considering changing to a different credit union soon because I’m tired of the over draft fees

Juan was excellent to work with. He handled a fraud issue without any challenges. Very much appreciated. Gracias Juan!

Interra boasts on their website that they are for the members. Not true. Ever since they have started charging for their checking accounts the customer service is terrible. We waited over 20 minutes to just do a simple transaction because there were only 2 tellers. I used to recommend this credit union to everyone. They didn't charge for checking accounts, had a great reward program and that has all been taken away. If you call into the service center you will talk to some of the rudest, uncaring people such as Kim. Currently looking for a new bank who cares for their members and doesn't charge me for putting my money into their financial institution.

This is place is a major security breach in waiting. DO NOT KEEP YOUR MONEY HERECompletely unable to detect fraudulent ACH charges against accounts and then the support team is a joke. I STILL haven’t gotten all my money back despite regular calls to support/fraud over the course of several months.I’ve been a member with Interra (formerly Farm Bureau) for 30 years now and will be closing my accounts after this. What a sad, insecure joke this “credit union” has become.

One should be able to trust their bank. I no longer do. As far as I am concerned interra stole $60 plus fees from me. I went thru the ATM 2 weeks before Christmas to withdraw money from debit card (diff bank) to deposit this money into night drop for interra account. Distracted the ATM sucked back in my money . Interra treated me like I was lying. 3 different people gave 3 different answers when I tried to get my money back. Almost 4 weeks later still do not have my money. It shouldn't be that complicated. 1. There should be cameras showing I did not get it. 2. Machine should have been over when balanced. 3. If a machine sucks your money back in , there should be a record of date/time and card# it did not disperse funds to. Unless this is a common practice interra uses to gain extra money? How is it an issue. I showed where it was taken off my debit card and there should be a report, overage and camera's. Thank you interra for stealing $60 from me right before Christmas and never so far returning it.

Usually great! However it seems their customer service has dropped significantly. I will be switching banks.

38 year member here. I've had a paid mortgage, home equity loan, numerous car loans over the years, etc, etc. There was a time I was happy that Farm Bureau/ Interra was my credit union. Not so much now. It's changed. One of several more recent problems: l needed a pre-approval letter for a construction loan. Went through the process, reminded the person twice what we were doing... at the end of 2 hours, she handed me a mortgage pre-approval letter. I told her AGAIN that it was for a construction loan... and she told me it was essentially the same thing. Okay, she's the expert. I took it to the builders and they laughed... typical Interra, they said. No, that was not what I needed. I tried contacting the person in order to fix it... no response to my emails (she was on vacation, I found out later). Since it was time sensitive, I was forced to go with a different lender. Didn't want to. I've done business with Farm Bureau/ Interra all my life. That's just one example. They continue to disappoint. Three stars out of respect for the "old days".
