“I love going here! I try to shop independent bookstores, and until a few weeks ago, I've never had a bad experience at Carmichael's! But the last time I was here, a worker made nasty comments about me while I was quietly browsing. It was really off-putting, and I'm still not entirely sure what I did wrong. I ended up leaving without checking out. I'm not sure if I want to go back- I might have to see if I can find another bookstore to patronize. Other than that, you can't go wrong with Carmichael's!”

“What a gem for our community! A local shop where you can browse for hours or ask for immediate help from a very knowledgeable owner. Don’t buy online when we have the Christian Book Nook!”

“Greatest local bookstore. I had to buy a last minute birthday gift for my wife and my guy at the counter gave me 4 recs based on a simple she's doing this in her world now. Ended up with a great book, big success. Right in the middle of the highlands, tons of stuff to do to just wander afterwards.”

“Smaller store filled to the top, CDs and old or new records, movies and collectible action figures everywhere. Better to park in the back, limited streetside front spots.”

“Fat Rabbit is clothing thrift shop and record shop all rolled into one located on a Popular row of shops and bars off Barret Ave in Lousiville, Kentucky. I went shopping a few weeks back with my 5 girls and some friends when we stopped into this shop. The clothing mainly consisted of 80s and 90s retro shirts, band merch and horror film merch. They had a massive record/vinyl collection to browse from. My oldest loves vinyls so she spent a lot of Time browsing those and had a blast. The workers here were very accommodating and friendly. Like most thrift shops you can find good bargains and then there are some you willFeel is overpriced. Overall a really cool and fun shop to check out, but things and even just browse.”

“Awesome and unique bookstore and music store. Decent selection of books and well organized for a used bookstore. They have some old games like Atari, game boy, and some I couldn't recognize. Fair prices. I'm glad this store is surviving still in the online music and ordering days.”

“Motel is ran down and out of date as far as amenities but the staff is cool, laid back and understanding (helpful), they only take cash, and the deposit is only $20. Over all it was a good place to stay.”

“VERY interesting place! Yes, it is run out of the owners house, but you would swear he sleeps on books! They are wall to wall, first editions, etc. It's not your typical bookstore with a rack for popular sci-fI, or fantasy, he has complete rooms dedicated to history, arts, self-help, etc. but they are mostly old. The smell of old books permeates the entire house. It's a beautiful thing. Go spend an hour looking at historic Louisville books, (I found a courier journal cookbook from the mid eighties here!) or go upstairs to peruse a wall of art! It's a fantastic place!”

“The staff are super helpful and make it easy to rent/return books. I’m a new grad student, and didn’t attend UofL for my undergrad, so I appreciate their help and being able to answer any questions I may have. I like the size of the bookstore as it’s not overwhelming huge but has quite a few options as far as merchandise goes.”
