I adopted my TUFFEE on April 24,2011 from here . I drive from Calumet City, Il. to get there, quite a distance . I had talked with them previous to find and when on my way they told me that another person was interested in the baby I originally was going to get . I told them I still was going to come and glad I did . My TUFFEE was standing up in his cage as if to say TAKE ME HOME, I'M READY And off we went . They this me he was found along a highway roaming . He's a Chihuahua so He's small . He's 14 now and thinks he's 4. The ladies there's were so kind, patient and helpful , GREATwhen I got there . If ever to adopt again, this is where I'm going . Treat a person good and I'll definitely return

Horrible. Filthy shelter. Was told ok that my mother can come get a dog for me due to the hours. Drive a hour to be told she can't pick up after being told 3 times it was okay. Never again. Heart broken ? that the puppy I was told I was cleared by my vet and everything was good to go to be told they have to move onto the next person. ? the replica of my dog of 17 years that had to be put down 2 years ago this month and told they have to move onto the next person. Beyond upset ?

Shannon and her staff are wonderful with the little furry ones needing a home. We have adopted several so they would have love and care in their remaining time before crossing the Rainbow ? Bridge.

Nice people. But not honest. Beware when money is involved.

The staff was very rude and disrespectful, they withheld information then proceed to threaten me and my wife. Very hostile environment, talked down to my wife and I when we were just trying to find out where our baby was, they were no help and made me feel worse about the situation of us not having a part of our family.

Do your research before purchasing or adopting animals. Sometimes it's better to refrain from impulse shopping. I understand the nature of adopting a dog, but there has to be humane in the humane society. Hey, we all try, right...

The animal I looked at was filthy with urine and poop on her. The lady who can tell if a dog wants to be adopted by you said it was it just came in from outside. My dog go outside alot and never looks like this. I have read many bad reviews about this shelter and how people were treated. I would have given this dog a great life but she refused to work with me and I was given incomplete information and when I went in she raised her voice and told me and my sister to sit down we are scaring the dog. She was rude the rest of the staff was nice. Shannon I was there to give a puppy a great home drove an hour and was treated rude by you and I did get upset and my sister was also there and she thought you were rude too. You scared both of us. I did question your staff because of the way you treated me. I will be making more reviews I have never seen someone unwilling to help a dog in a shelter get a home. I hope you did find that dog a good home. And I hope you rethink how you work with people. I have never had to make a review before. You need to read the reviews that are written about Starke county animal shelter and you. Not a good place take your animals somewhere else to re home.

I found a dog on route 10 almost get hit by a car. I called them before they opened. They answered, and I was able to bring the dog there. They were super kind and courteous and very helpful.

Our experience with this Starke County (IN) Humane Society was not good. We were told a certain dog was ours to adopt after the dog was neutered and recovered. I left my name and phone number, veterinarian contact, and dog's name we wanted. When we went to pick up the dog we were told the dog was given to someone else. They said our name was on a different dog's kennel. We only looked and and leash-walked one dog at that kennel. We're very disappointed. The facility is not clean, the staff is disorganized and insincere about linking a dog to an adopter. I cannot recommend this facility for dog adoption.

Starke county humane society may be small but their hearts are huge. The animals receive the best care and this shelter is clean and organized. I also love that they sell merchandise to help support and promote the shelter.
