Train station will take you from Indiana Dunes to Chicago in an hour. They have ticket machines here to buy your tickets. Its super convenient, and a great way to spend the day.

Definitely one of the nicest and probably most safe of stations on the line to leave your car overnight.
That or Beverly Shores, but there's too few cars that are traditionally left in that lot. And What else do BSPD do?

Love to catch South Shore Lines into Chicago at Dune Park. Easy parking, clean waiting area and restroom. Beautiful building.

South shore line staff are really polite and friendly. We got confused with the platforms: usually only platform 1 is in use (for trains going in both directions), so do not use platform 2 unless there is an announcement.
For the state park, cross over the track (at the crossing!) and you can see a sign post that directs you to the different trails. We walked towards the main state park entrance and it takes about 30-45 mins to reach the park.

Dune Park is a beautiful train station. We came here by train (from Chicago) to do a walk in Dune Park. This train station was situated in a very convenient location to Dune Park (approx 30-45 mins by walk / 2-3kms). The train station is very tidy and the washrooms are clean. We got slightly confused about the platforms , when we were heading back to Chicago. Apparently, for both directions (east or west), usually trains stop in front of the station (unless otherwise announced that they are stopping at the other platform). If you are confused / unsure, always ask the train master / driver before get in. The south shore line train staff are incredibly helpful and polite. Thank you.

Dune Park station is an excellent stop—new, clean, and perfectly situated. The platform gives you direct access to trails leading into the state park, which is just awesome. Just a heads-up: whether you’re catching an eastbound or westbound train, you’ll board from the south platform (right next to the station), so be sure you don’t end up on the wrong side. Highly recommend this station for its convenience and proximity to nature!

It's not a bad station while waiting for your train. The bathrooms need to be cleaner and more modern. There also needs to be more snack machines and Wi-Fi.

Cool and well maintained station with neat architecture. I really do wish they more clearly marked the path from current bus service across the tracks and into the trail for the state and national parks though... do not follow Google maps and cross the highway interchange!
