“We like to travel to a different Indiana State Park Inn for spring break every year and this was our first time checking out Canyon Inn. We were very pleased with our stay! We stayed for 2 nights in one of the Queen Studio Rooms on the 3rd floor. It was so nice to have the extra space in the studio room to stretch out and allow our toddler to play after a day of adventures in the park. I would highly suggest these rooms for families of littles as they’re a great size and have a fridge and microwave included as well.We checked-in on the one year anniversary of the EF-3 tornado that hit the park in 2023. We knew coming to the park, that the majority of the trails were still closed, but decided to come anyways. You can tell that business is slow because of how quiet the Inn, Restaurant, and Park was throughout our stay. However, you can tell that the staff still takes great pride in this Park and Inn. The Inn is over 100 years old, so we were not expecting a luxurious stay by any means. The rooms are quaint, but comfortable. I was very impressed by how clean our room was! Having a toddler, we like to wipe down surfaces when we get to hotels and as I wiped down our room, everything was so clean and I didn’t pick up any dirt or grime. That’s the most important for me! You can tell the Inn is in need of some good TLC, like wall paint touch-ups, new couches in room, update to bathrooms etc. Even with its age and wear, it is well cared for and again… clean! The staff is incredibly kind as well. I especially want to shout out Allison, who was the front desk receptionist when we checked-in. She was so friendly and welcoming. When we got there, the weather was warm. When we got to our room, we could tell the air conditioning was not working. We let Allison know right away and she told us how to turn it on correctly and asked us to give it some time. The air conditioning never turned on, so she called maintenance, who was in our room within 20 mins. When it was decided that it could not be fixed, we were quickly moved to a new room. Allison was so quick to action and understanding, it really started our trip out on the right foot despite the hiccup!Outside of our stay at the Inn, we enjoyed dinner at the restaurant 2 nights in a row. It is so nice to have the restaurant right there, we didn’t need to leave the park during our entire stay! Our stay was during the week, so they didn’t have the full buffet, but they did have a lovely soup and salad bar. The salad bar was very fresh and the soup was delicious. Outside of the soup and salad bar, they also have a full menu (it is the same as every other state park restaurant, but still delicious). We had the same waitress both nights- Rhonda- who was an absolute sweetheart and so kind! She learned that this was our first trip to McCormick Creek SP and gave us local suggestions and sights to see while we are down in this area.Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay! It was the perfect getaway for our little family. We hope that with the Solar Eclipse next week (we were told they expect a large crowd for that) that people will see that that McCormick Creek SP and Canyon Inn are open for business and that it has so much to offer despite the set-backs it experienced in 2023. We also hope that the Inn can get some love and updates as they work to fully reopen the park.”

“This is a perfect getaway for a couple, family or just friends. Nature lovers will appreciate the lake as well as the trails around the lake. Fish are abundant in the lake The cabins are cozy and comfortable with everything you need to prepare your meals. Cell service is pretty sporadic, don't plan on relying on it. Definitely will return.”
