19 W U.S. Hwy 6, ValparaisoJust did our first time boarding after years of grooming. We are thrilled to have such an amazing option for our pups to get quality care at affordable prices. Some of these local places want the same amount of the vacation just to watch your dogs. Finally the fact that Maggie was willing to from our dogs and have them ready for pick up on a holiday is just rare customer service you see in today's world. She does a phenomenal job grooming our retrievers and truly cares about her job! I hope Pet Haven takes good care of her because she is an amazing asset to their facility. I also love that I can take my kids in and let them see/hold/touch critters and not just look behind the glass. Ken is great if you have a salty tank. He's extremely knowledgeable and the only local source I would recommend for beginners to get interested in the hobby. Over all this is a fantastic lil gem tucked away down the rural part of 6. It's a fun stop to see what they have or if you need any animal services.

1101 Calumet Ave, ValparaisoWe got our golden retriever puppy from The Puppy Emporium, and she has been the absolute best addition to our family! The whole process was so easy and stress free. The staff was incredibly kind and knowledgeable, and they let us bring our 2 year old in to see how they’d do together, which meant a lot to us. Our vet gave her a clean bill of health, and we were given all the paperwork showing she came from a real breeder, including her breeder’s vet check and AKC paperwork with her dam and sire. You can really tell they care about where their puppies come from and making sure they go to the right homes. Buying from The Puppy Emporium was honestly one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. We couldn’t be happier!

651 Eastport Center Dr, ValparaisoThis vet is amazing! We took our dogs here for over 10 years. It doesn’t matter who you see as they are all knowledgeable and compassionate vets. Dr. Anna performed an emergency surgery on my 5lb dog who degloved her jaw. I read into the surgery and found it is highly technical and challenging. It requires precision and not all vets do it. It’s not a common surgery. It was a scary time for me as the owner/parent as well. Now 2 years later you can’t even tell. So I would highly recommend them. Also, their compassion for my dog(s), and me, is unmatched.

They are always polite. I haven't figured out why they put the owner in a room as they take the cat to the back. Cat was well taken care of when she had to stay there.

Dr. treats my dog like she’s been her vet her whole life. Her exams are thorough and she makes sure you understand what is going on with your pets health. I had a rough day with car issues. Car was disabled in their parking lot. It was HOT outside. They allowed me to come and go through their entrance and get a break from the heat as needed and were kind and helpful the entire time. After tow truck arrived, I accidentally left my briefcase and had to come back to grab it. They were on top of that as well and grabbed it from the bench outside and brought it inside for safe keeping.

1259 Sturdy Rd, ValparaisoThis guy!! Let me tell you! Christopher Keeley saved my dogs life. After 14 hours at the Animal hospital this guy had me leaving with my dog! Doctor Keeley came in after his own work hours at his normal everyday Veterinary clinic to help our baby Ace that’s only a year and a half old. Spent 2 1/2 hours trying to retrieve a bone about 3inches long 2inches wide and 1/2 inch thick from my dog’s esophagus. I cannot believe how lucky we are because of the help of Doctor Keeley. My boyfriend and I seriously thank you from the bottom of our hearts. No amount of money can repay this guy for saving our little furbaby’s life.

(Please never feed your dog any bone that can get to be this size! It’s extremely dangerous and I’d hate for anyone to have to go through what we went through today)

We went over the top too. Cafe Capuccino to start, Jamon Serrano appetizer, tapas combo platter dinner, the red fish special, flan for dessert with coffee. The couple we dined with was equally pleased and will be back, as will we.

12 Jefferson St, ValparaisoBao's Pastry is my kind of bakery: You walk in, and you're automatically overwhelmed by the choices. There are just so many good things in the display case! It seriously took me about 10 to decide on a dessert. In the end, I got a slice of strawberry cheesecake. I took it to go, knowing that I would eat it in my car. (The best place to eat any food.) I chose cheesecake, because in the end, cheesecake is the illest of the desserts. You can't go wrong with a silky smooth slice o' cake o' cheese. And I wasn't wrong! The cheesecake at Bao's is creamy, yet a little pleasantly gelatinous from the strawberry topping. It was so rich that I couldn't eat it all in my car, so I took it to go to enjoy back at my hotel. Some of the other things I was considering getting at Bao's included the mini tarts, tiramisu cup, raspberry opera cake, turnovers, passionfruit cake and many others. They also have lots of macarons, but I'm not a macaron lady! Try as I might, I do not like macarons, but if you like macarons, then Bao's is the place to find macarons. Mostly, this is a to-go joint, but there are a couple of tables on the outdoor patio, and a table or two inside. When I visited, I only saw people pop in and get their goodies and pop back out.

This is a woman owned business and is dog friendly as well - both are wins in my book. I would love to come back in the summer for one of their slushies. I got a wine flight and everything was fantastic. They also have great ciders! The food was pretty good, we shared the buffalo cauliflower and the Tso good tendies (way spicier than we thought).

Took the girl that was working the counters suggestion to try the blueberry limón smoothie. it was very very good. i also tried the soup of the day (potato chive) which was also very very good. I was pleasantly surprised to find a little baggie of tortilla chips to go along with the soup. It was a great little late breakfast that was actually nutritious.
