This is a very clean and well taken care of hotel. We would strongly recommend.
The rooms are clean, the reception area is clean, and the breakfast is hot and gets you started.

The mattresses were slanted, the pillows were flat, and the walls were thinner than a college dorm room.

Clean!! Stayed here a couple of times and every time things are clean. No bugs! The pool is clean and open, and the hot tub works. Breakfast was missing yogurt and bananas. That was the only downfall for me this last time.

This hotel is average. Room had a weird smell and beds were not firm. We stayed 2 nights and during breakfast there was no waffle mix either of the days. 2nd morning, they ran out of milk and the yogurt machine was not working. My husband is vegetarian, so he was pretty limited in his breakfast options.
The lobby is decorated nice, has amazing coffee machine, staff is helpful. Pool and hot tub are good! Location is very close to university campus. About 5mins drive to East campus area.

Clean and comfortable room. Good location since we were taking our pet to veterinary hospital nearby. Pet friendly. Good hot breakfast

Stayed here last week. Booked this location an Extra night due to the advertised hot tub in the pool area and free breakfast. Arrived Thursday Night and checked in. After going to room, noticed the hot tub caution taped off. Went for supper and asked the receptionist what was wrong with the hot tub? Her response was it been broken for 4-5 months. We were disappointed due to this was the reason we booked the Thursday night also. Broken for that long means that they have no intention on fixing it and should remove from the amenities list. Next morning (Friday) 8:30 am, breakfast was very dismal and poorly kept up. Out of most items. Saturday morning started horrible. Shortly before 7am the lawn service starts mowing outside our room on a Saturday morning! Got dressed and left. Won’t be back.

Stayed here after a Cyclone Bball game and was in a rush leaving the next morning. I left a heirloom belt buckle of my father’s. My heart sank. I called Will at the front desk and when he heard the desperation in my voice he dropped everything and ran to the room. He returned to the front desk, picked up the phone and said “I’ve got it!” You have no idea how relieved I was. Above and Beyond! So know that the staff is on point and a message to his Manager:
GIVE WILL A RAISE
I have NEVER had such consideration from a hotel staff member.
If I owned a business and could hire him; I’d steal him from you in a NY minute!!!
He’s fantastic!

We stayed at this Best Western & then traveled on & stayed at a more expensive Hyatt the next night. There were a couple things we noted at this hotel that may not have been quite as nice as the Hyatt--such as a loose faucet & fairly small bathtub, but overall I would pick this Best Western anyday! The beds were more comfortable, the pillows were better (which when you're there to sleep is pretty important!) & the room felt very clean! Staff was friendly & very efficient. Would most certainly stay here again! Close to the University--and we highly recommend The Iowa Stater Restaurant. Amazing food!!!

UPDATE 1/3/25. Increased to 3 stars based on the owner's response.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
This hotel is very average. I've stayed there a few times now. The last time I stayed there, there was mold growing on the faucet in the room--which was totally disgusting. I tried to wash the mold off with my rag but it was firmly caked on the faucet. The rooms themselves are generally clean (other than the mold), but otherwise are an average hotel room.
I found the breakfast to be lacking compared to other hotels I've stayed at. For example, there was no oatmeal and no juice other than apple juice in bottles. The hotel staff was very friendly. The last time I stayed, the pool and hot tub were closed and it appeared as though they were being renovated or otherwise worked on.

Very nice hotel overall. The pool and hot tub were closed for repairs (had not planned to use though).
Definitely would stay again when in the Ames area.

This is a great hotel! Very clean, and a fantastic location to Iowa State. The friendly staff were a highlight. Mr. Tom Loyd was a fantastic breakfast attendant! He was such a pleasure to meet and so accommodating.

After researching hotels in this area, I was fairly certain this was a very nice one from the photos on their website on Best Western. BOOKER BEWARE, THE PHOTOS ARE INCORRECT.
I specifically chose and booked a suite with photos of a separate bedroom, a large living area, and a kitchen table. I chose this room because we were driving 4 and a half hours with a toddler and didn’t want to take them out of the hotel to eat so we planned on eating in the hotel room at the table. Upon check in, we went to a room which was NOTHING like the room we had booked online.
I went to the front desk to show the worker pictures of my reservation and of the room I had booked and they turned me away with no help. I then sent my husband down to speak with them and they moved us to a new room.
This new room was the wrong suite as well. This new room also had loud construction workers working right outside the windows, windows which had been left wide open to the elements. The refrigerator did not work in this new room nor did the tv unless you wanted to watch the only 8 channels the hotel receives which were all political news channels. The couch in this room also smelled like someone had vomited on it.
At this point we were so exhausted, we ended up staying in the new room. My guess is that the hotel over booked the suites that we had booked and had no where else to place us.

We recently had a financial mix up with Expedia and the General Manager, Jolene, remedied it right away!!!!! Her customer service is very much appreciated. Next time we are in Ames, we will be staying at the Best Western. Thank you Jolene!

Love this hotel. Staff is great-special shout out to Casey, who helped resolve a third party booking snafu. She really went above and beyond! David also was a pleasant presence at the front desk. Love the coffee machine for fancy coffees. Rooms are spacious. Lobby and grounds are nicely designed and appointed

Very clean, newly remodeled hotel. Nice variety of hot breakfast options. Would definitely stay again if in the area.
