Months ago I paid to rent a small unit plus a lock using their webpage. When I went out to see the unit, I couldn’t get in contact with anyone to let us into the gate, we weren’t given a code and we had items that needed to be moved quickly for basement work to be done at our home. I could see the buildings were extremely run down and in poor condition from the gate. Within days of entering the lease, without a returned call, I then tried to call again to discontinue the lease having not been able to move in. When I still couldn’t get anyone to answer my call I left a message stating that I would like to terminate the agreement. They have continued to bill me every month, adding late fees, a fee to cut the lock I never got, and fees that to auction off items that were never moved in. I’ve left messages and emails and they still continue to bill. These people are crooks, do not engage!

I would rate it lower if I could. I had my locker broken into and she wouldn’t even come to look at it. I had to put a new hasp on it myself. I left there 23 months ago. Cleaned out my unit. Let them know I was leaving in advance and still get a bill. They can’t even handle their paperwork. According to this bill I owe $1688.00. What a joke.

This is the complaint I made with BBB in May 2024:
Late in March 2024, we decided to remove our travel trailer from A-1 Self Storage, and to terminate the business relationship with them. By April 1st, 2024, we had secured a new storage option, and removed the travel trailer from A-1 Self Storage Property. On April 1st, 2024 at 4:17 pm, I called A-1 Self Storage to give them notice that we are terminating the lease the payment they received on April 1st, 2024 would be the last. I left a voice mail. Having not received any response via phone, I sent them a certified letter to their PO box notifying them that we had removed all of our property from the facility, and that we would be making no further payments. Still no response. Based on other complaints here on BBB, I took the proactive step of cancelling the bank draft payments. Fast forward to May 1st, 2024. I would normally have received an email invoice by now for the May payment, did not receive one, assumed that everything was complete. Fast forward to today, May 9th, 2024. I received an email stating that I owed May payment, as well as 2 separate late fees...one reportedly issued on May 4th, and the second one reportedly issued on May 9th. I called again today, May 9th, 2024 to inquire about this bill...no answer, had to leave a voice mail. I'm not optimistic that I will get a response. I'm just looking for termination of the agreement like I had asked for over a month ago, without having to pay for services since I requested the termination.
Mid-July 2024, I still haven't heard a word from the owner of this property (I'm not willing to call it a business). The bill has continued to rise. I was charged a "Lock Cut Fee"...funny enough, it's a parking space, no lock to cut. Charged a "Certified Mail Fee"...never received any certified mail (they do indeed have my correct mailing address, as I'm receiving paper bills from them).
I know the previous owners of this property, which is why I started renting there...the previous owners were AMAZING! The current owners however, are not. PLEASE...DO NOT USE THIS OPTION FOR YOUR SELF-STORAGE!!!

FIRST of all, I reported ALL 5-star reviews to Google as misleading and/or spam, as these are CLEARLY the owner(s) trying to increase their rating...
Rented a unit online. The only door there (a small hinged entry door) had 2 locks on it (but they did no good with the broken latch) I have video evidence of this. as the video was rolling and I opened the door, the unit was full of someone's furniture. I immediately called the number listed on the gate (with the non-operational keypad), and reported this. She said "I will have to drive there and look at it. I will let you know". We had a flood coming quickly and needed to rent a spot right away so I simply asked for my deposit and pro-rated rental fee back and she stated, "well that isn't instant, it takes a while". That was 2 weeks ago and the last I heard from her...no refund given.
I see others have gone through similar situations with this "company". I am willing to do extra legwork for the group if we would all like to get together for a class action-type lawsuit/criminal charges (deceptive business practices, theft by deception, wire fraud, and general theft, loss/damage to property, intentional infliction of emotional distress, etc...), as that was some advice given to me by someone that actually is employed in the field of litigation...Just let me know. People like this have no business "running" any sort of operation, especially one with access to credit card information. DO NOT give them your credit card information, as they WILL steal from you as they did me and several others...

Do NOT rent from this place. The owner Julie Coiner does not know how to run a business let alone how to treat a customer of 9 years. She will NOT return a phone call or text. She will NOT help you if you lose your key. I have been shut out since Aug 2023 because my HUSBAND is the renter and too busy to deal with this situation. She will only open it for him even with his permission to let me in. Sorry Julie people are busy and sometimes just need help and a normal human being would recognize that but not you...noooooooo

If I could give less than 1 star I would. First day I got there I came from out of town with 3 vehicles full of stuff and they didn't even have my unit ready. I get a different unit and keep that one for 4 years. The unit has mice, bugs, etc. Fast forward to May 2023 when I empty my storage unit. They have continued billing me every month since. They try to charge for leaving stuff in there(I have video it was empty), late fees, anything they can think of . It's now October and they say I owe them $400+ for a unit that's been empty for 5 months. Also when you call them they hang up on you if they don't like what they hear. Absolute joke of a company - stay far away!!

Worst experience just rented a unit today, come to find out i should have looked at these reviews. Everything these reviews say is 100% true. If anybody has any idea how to cancel my lease please let me know

Was not refunded my $100....was also accused of stealing the freaking lock. Horrible person to deal with. Running A-1 storage into the ground. I wish I had looked at these reviews b4 using this business. ?

I rented a storage unit based on what the storage facility looked like online. HUGE MISTAKE! The place looks nothing like the website photos, I would NEVER rent a unit at a place that it looks like it does. I couldn’t get in the gate, there was not even a storage unit on the premises the size that I had rented, nor the storage number. Called several times, no one answered or returned my call. I will dispute ALL charges!

If ZERO stars were an option- that's what I would rate this "business". The owner is BEYOND rude. They never answer the phone, and when they do they hang up on you. I rented a unit from this place for about 6 months. When I moved my belongings out most of it was ruined. It smelled like mildew and there was even mouse feces inside the boxes. Once again the owner wanted to do nothing about my damaged property- nor did she return my calls. After I had moved my ruined belongings out, she still proceeded to charge me the monthly fee as if I were still renting it. DO NOT USE THIS STORAGE COMPANY. Your belongings would be safer in the back ally of a crack house.

Paid for a month plus deposit was out in 27days even swept the unit out. The lady then charged my card two more times and refused to refund anything including deposit.

I Finally received a call back from the owner after Repeated attempts to contact them about why they are sending me invoices for a storage unit that I haven’t used in 2 months and she wouldn’t talk to me at all and hung up on me. Look at 2 star rating for this company and steer clear from them.

If I could leave negative stars I would. No one returns phone calls. Couldn't get into the unit I reserved online several months ago so ended up using a different storage facility. Tried every possible way to get ahold of these people to get my money back. No response, just continue to get bills.The picture they have online of their storage unit looks nothing like what they actually offer. Had I not been in a time crunch and looked at their buildings before, I would have never used them to begin with.
