Dan's great -- down-to-earth, realistic, does good work, and is honest about letting you know when dealer-recommended work really isn't. Nice to have a skilled mechanic in our area.

I took my 1998 Eclipse Spyder GST in after it was horribly overheating on my way to work in Marshalltown, coming from Ames. Their shop was swamped with work, so it took a week for them to look at it.
Even though I had to wait, I didn't mind at all- like I said, they were busy. They performed two, TWO pressure tests in my coolant system to try and locate the problem. There were just some leaky hoses. They were unable to reproduce the massive overheating, however.
Instead of making something up and charging me, they just gave my keys back, and sent me on my way. They did point out that I had a massive oil leak though, which I didn't notice. If they weren't in Colo, I'd take my car back to have them replace the valve cover gasket, even though I can do it myself.
To top this off, I even insisted on paying for the pressure tests, twice, and they refused to take my money.
I really wish more shops could be like this.
Good on you guys, Dan and Ben. I'll be driving my car out to Colo to get any work done, if the problem isn't rendering my car non operable.
