“Five Stars for Mary in the Davenport Frame Department!

I cannot say enough good things about Hobby Lobby in Davenport, IA, and specifically Mary in the custom framing department. Over the course of several visits, Mary helped us reframe a cherished family heirloom—my father-in-law’s watercolor painting that had suffered mold damage to its mats and backer boards.

From start to finish, Mary was remarkably patient, kind, and deeply thoughtful. Reframing this piece was no small feat, especially given the extra challenge of working with an existing metal frame, and a time crunch, because I planned to transport the painting out of the US with me. Mary’s expertise and skill guided us every step of the way. She cut new mats for us multiple times—including after an unfortunate mishap where I accidentally cut myself on the frame glass and got blood on one of the freshly cut mats! Throughout it all, she was so gracious, compassionate, and reassuring to both me and my teenager.

Thanks to Mary, the final piece turned out even better than the original matting and framing (the photo attached does not do it justice because of the camera glare). She transformed a very stressful situation into a wonderful experience, and we are so grateful for her care and dedication to preserving our family piece. “It took me a minute to find what I needed, but that was more on me than the store since I don't go in there very often. The self checkout was new since I was in there last so I used that. It was easy but unfortunately it was really easy to scan items multiple times which I ended up doing. I felt so bad because there was only one employee. She was so nice and extremely helpful. I didn't catch her name but she had glasses and long black hair. I felt so bad for her because there were a lot of customers and just her. She was very patient and apologetic but it was not her fault at all. Overall the store was clean and organized. I just had issues with the self checkout.”
