2 stars, would have been less but price was cheap. Quality is definitely lacking compared to a storage unit I have elsewhere. Heavy carts, ackward entries. Thereis no light in my unit and it's super dark except for the daylight to outside in my 2nd story unit allowing bugs to get in. Tight fit getting out of elevator with cart. No rodent poison or traps set out, have to bring your own pest detterants. My other place had them already in the units and elsewhere throughout. Outside entry box isn't working, so I have to buzz the office to be let in. Went in earlier today and noone answered my buzz to let me in. The other entry is super inconvenient to my place and is a big slope. Place is like a maze, so it's hard to find units. Place seems sketchy and not as clean as my other place either. I would have gotten a second unit at my other place, but there was a month free here and a 50% off deal and I only need this short term, so I couldn't pass that up, but I am definitely getting what I paid for. Would not rent these out at full price that is for sure!

I called the customer service but no one picked up, and I left the message, but I didn't get a call back. I talked directly with the front desk lady on my final day to close my account. I also followed their procedures of closing the account. However, I received up comming payment on my account one week later. I went online to cancel with a promised of 24 hours effectively close my account. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. I called the customer service again to close my account, and I will ensure with confirmation email. To many hassle to deal with, customer service system is failed. By the way, we had to go around other entrance because the gate of my entrance broke.

I can’t, in good conscience, give CubeSmart anything above a 1-star review. Things have progressively gotten worse and worse. The facility reeks of (fresh) cigarette smoke, and not the stale smoky smell you’d expect if someone stored their stuff here after smoking around it. You can’t call the place climate controlled nor access controlled when they leave the roll-up doors open during business hours, and then have staff who disappear for hours on end. The district manager doesn’t seem to care, the staff are overworked, underpaid, and expected to put up with everything on their own. When you treat your staff like this, you can’t expect them to give you their best work. This facility continues to get trashed often, and now, they’ve resorted to posting signs threatening additional cleanup charges to the culprits and to reduce access to business hours only, presumably for all customers. Not sorry, but why should all of the responsible and respectful customers be penalized for the misbehavior of others?! Evict them if they are causing problems, don’t penalize the rest of us. We pay for access from 6:30 am-10 pm, 7 days a week. If they plan on reducing access hours, they’d better reduce the ever increasing rents.

I’m torn on this place.
Kayla was great during the rental process, and found me a more suitable unit than the original one I was shown. For the first month or so, things seemed good.
Now, it’s evident that they either need more staff to maintain the place, or the ones who are there just aren’t doing their part. If it’s just one or two employees, that’s simply too large a task to expect of them. This facility is big. Just doing a ‘quick’ sweep would take the average person hours. I’ve seen the same garbage piled up in the loading dock area for over a week now. There are no garbage cans, nor dumpster access, so people throw things wherever they want. There is no accountability. The main loading dock/bay door has been broken for more than a week. This, based on other reviewers, is a repeat occurrence. The aisles of this facility are filthy, with food debris and residue from liquid spills remaining on the floors indefinitely, which is highly likely to attract vermin. The facility is well lit in the aisles and common areas, but none of the units I was shown have even remotely adequate light to ensure a reasonable level of sight and safety. The facility does provide 2 flatbed carts for customers to use, but they are rarely put back in the cart area when people finish with them, and that means others have to go on a wild goose chase through the winding aisles of the place to try to find one of the carts. This facility is too new to have all these issues. Either someone is far too overworked , or someone isn’t doing their job, or maybe even both. Whatever the case, I would definitely think twice before renting from this facility.

My recent visit to CubeSmart on East University in Des Moines left me with mixed feelings.( Which I visit often because I have unit with my sister.) anywho the facility offers a range of storage units and amenities, there are areas that could use significant improvement.
Firstly, the maintenance of the facility could be better. With its large size, it's clear that the workload is too much for just one or two people to handle. Hiring additional staff for cleaning and upkeep could greatly enhance the overall appearance and functionality of the facility.
On a positive note, I must commend Kayla and Candice for their exceptional service. They are dedicated to their jobs and are actively working towards improving the facility. Their professionalism and efforts are truly appreciated.
However, one aspect that concerns me is the lack of security measures, especially considering the location of the facility. With a noticeable presence of homeless individuals and those struggling with addiction renting units, it's crucial to implement some form of security to ensure the safety of all customers and their belongings.
In conclusion, while CubeSmart on East University has its strengths, such as excellent staff members like Kayla and Candice, there are significant areas for improvement. Enhancing maintenance, particularly through additional staff, and implementing better security measures are essential steps towards creating a safer and more welcoming environment for all customers.

Candice is the most wonderful person. She went above and beyond to get me setup in my unit. We need more like her. The office manager Kayla is also super friendly and helpful. I suggest no other storage place. If I could clone Kayla and Candice I would. You gals made the most horrible April turn into a blessed May. Thank you so deeply it is appreciated.

The worst,dirtiest, units getting broke into,I helped out mainly so I could stay late to guard my unit
My friends unit just gotten broken into.one garage door hasn't worked for 5 months.the other one gets stuck and won't shut. I cleaned bathroom several times out by the dumpster looked like a dump site. I cleaned that multiple times. I even thought I'd be a gentleman and clean up human waste on floor. What thanks did I get? The manager actually tape recorded me and then played it for the other employees.oh, did I mention.I am a customer. Never received a dime,a thank you, nothing.
Do not rent at this place!
I forgot to mention the district manager coming to my unit. What is with these people.This is my property,not yours,I'll be there as many times in the day as I want after all it's my stuff! I have an internet based business so I am needing access. The District Manager asked me "How I got in building? I said "well I don't know about you but I usually use a door!" Seriously ? I almost told her I flew in by helicopter and repelled my way down and crawled through the ventilation shaft directly to my unit
They treat us bad and I've literally heard the manager make fun of east siders.
I asked district manager to call me. She never did ! I would think a company like cubesmart would reach out or I should send them a bill for doing their employees jobs that they were too lazy to do. Still!

i just would like to say , i didn't like the way i was treated at cub smart , i work on electronics and was in my storage unit trying to fix some boards i a receiver i was fixing , and i sat down to work on them and i accidentally fell asleep for a few mins , i was very tired for working alot of hours that week and i was woke up by the manger saying i cant live in these units , i apologized for falling asleep but she insisted i was living in it , i told her i had a home , but she was rued and made me give up my unit and have to leave when alls i was doing was working on a few things and fell asleep, i just thought that was pretty judgmental of her thinking that when she had no clue of what i was doing or that it was cause i was so tired , and thinking i lived in that unit when i have my own house bought and paid for . thats ny review of what i think of cubsmart . shouldnt judge until u no the facts . thank you for your time .
