This will be the last time our family shops at this downtown HyVee. We live downtown and I would love to be able to quickly run to the grocery store, however, it is unacceptable that I am treated as if I am stealing items and have a security guard come verify that I am in fact strolling around my 1 month old and not stealing. Despite the fact we are clearly putting items in a basket. Not acceptable to feel uncomfortable buying groceries because I have my baby with me. I understand theft is an issue at this location, but there has to be a better way.

You can shop and feel like a criminal at the same time! The full time watchers of the self-check out at the front, either by cops or staff, is uncomfortable. I get it’s for shop lifting problems but it still makes for an unpleasant ending of the trip to the point I may start going elsewhere. May be best to just put cashiers back there to avoid this.

Worst hyvee in the whole metro. You have to park in the parking garage or walk around the whole building, can only exit through the parking garage, all self checkouts with half of them not working. Selection is terrible, they’re clearly more focused on reducing theft than the customers experience.

Everything was good they just didn't add the extras I was charged for so doordash gave me a refund for the missing fruit and chocolate in the pancakes.

Hey Hy-Vee, what are you doing with this location? Why would you close the sidewalk pedestrian facing entrance to an urban grocery store? Do you know how to run an urban grocery store? Also, why do you have to make remodels to your stores every 2 years? Is that why everything is as expensive as Whole Foods?

If you want to feel like mouse this is the store for you. The cores will probably change every six months making you think you're going crazy. If you want to get hit by a car this is the best place to do it at; with all those blind places EVERYWHERE!
If that's not what you're looking for, you would enjoy imagining yourself in a jail yard checkout line where Sir OJ watches you check out every item in your cart. Then comes down and looks at you. I am trying to shop in the store. not play ring around a rosie or red light green light with the doors. I used to work at a Hy-Vee I quit because they treated and discriminated against people of class. I shouldn't have to dress up in Brands to go shopping at a dysfunctional Hy-Vee. If you don't want people to shop there just close. You took the tables out. Could have kept one! selfish!

This place is awful

Terrible. Only one entrance is a huge fire & safety issue. And they aren't even complying with required city hours. Do not recommend.

What happened to this place? It used to be the place to go downtown for nearly all your needs. Now there are para-police patrolling every aisle instead of helpful smiles which are gone. Prices are stupid high. They’re now what, partitioning off sections of the store? For what? Their vaults for all the profit they’ve made?
Leave the city for 2 years and this is what I come back to plus you HAVE to check yourself out now?!
F- Hy-Vee , you used to be cool. Looks like greed has set in…..HARRIS TEETER SAVE ME

I’ve got to give credit to this hyvee. When I think it can’t get worse, somehow it does.
They continue to shrink hours open and now they removed the entrance with the Starbucks. Insanity…
Whoever is running this hyvee and making the decisions needs to be fired asap.

One star because they blocked the entrance to Starbucks and closed their grill.

It takes up a whole block but has 1 singular entrance behind the store. Which really is them preparing for when you enter and see they got a glass wall making sure you have to really get your steps in if you want a bottle or liquor and some pain meds. No hate towards the staff tho. Most of them are pretty cool and very helpful. Too bad they work for a crappy company that puts money over any sense of convenience for the only major grocery store downtown.

The store hours and constant layout change doesn’t bother me. The prices in store not matching what the website says does irritate me.

This location offers The same selection you would get on Fleur or one of the other Des Moines Metro locations while still providing a unique layout and upscale atmosphere.
