Living in what used to be Sycamore Mall, on the east side of town, The Hobby Corner is a great spot to find radio controlled items, games, models, puzzles, trains, tools, rockets, educational sets and all sorts of cool toys! It's got a wide variety of items. I popped in on a Saturday evening and perused the shop. There are so many unique items, all priced appropriately. I was impressed to overhear a regular customer pop in and chat with the staff. There is definitely a sense of community at this shop. My daughter saw a daffodil Lego set and was thrilled have it purchased for her. (You're welcome.) It's cool that they have board game night (Thursdays) and that you can come play a board game yourself anytime during the day. On the same note-- if you have an old board game you can sell it here. You can now sell your used games in our store. To do this simply follow these few steps. You set the price and once it is sold you get 80% of that price as store credit. The coolest thing about The Hobby Corner is that they will order anything for you if you can't find it in the store-- at NO additional cost!

Gteat staff but Bcw boxes are trash. Either my graded cards wouldn't fit or the box was too loose for my raws. For a box that's meant to protect my cards it mess a good % of them up.

The store has a nice selection, a little bit of everything which is nice. Prices are competitive. It's location is...weird. Questionable? It seems like the only store open in the mall area. I, not my girlfriend, we're not greeted or acknowledged in any way in the store. Was going to buy Dragon Castle but honestly felt like we weren't welcomed.

Great little shop. Has a little bit of everything. Been able to find what I need and always stuff I don't need as well. ?I collect slot cars and use modeling supplies. Not the variety of an online shop but it's to be expected. They have to stock a variety of things for all interests in general to remain a brick n mortar store or online will end them. They have puzzles and RPG and miniatures and model trains, plastic models, sci fi and anime stuff, science experiment stuff etc.Staff is always super friendly. Store is clean and well lit. Prices are fair. Plenty of parking and close to food. Check them out and keep your local shop in business! I know I enjoy every time I go there.

Amazing shop and friendly staff! Wide selection of board games of all types and age range. I usually end up buying something I didn't plan on getting when I walked in. They're knowledgeable about RC, and will help you repair and upgrade your model after purchase so you have added peace of mind. Thanks for all your help!

Hands down best hobby/game store in Iowa City. You get a variety of RPGs, war gaming, RCs, board games, model kits etc. They really do have the most variety in the area. Cost of paint and brushes are very reasonable compared to the near-highway robbery I’ve seen at other places nearby. There’s an area for gaming here too if you want to host anything. Very chill staff. Would recommend.

Gosh! I can't believe Hobby Corner hasn't received a review in 2.5 years. Even though the store is located in the nearly defunct Sycamore Mall, this store is still a great place to go out of your way to visit. My husband and I had never been here, and with time to kill before our movie we thought "what the heck?" The Hobby Corner has a huge variety of items for sale. Hobby items like paints and supplies for those model airplanes, but also board games, puzzles, Legos, Giant MICROBES (I squealed when I saw these because I didn't know the company still existed) and many, many other fun things. Yes, they sell a lot for the D&D and Star Wars fans in your life, but you could easily come in here to grab a gift for your coworker or a unique board game for family game night. They have some funny, obscure titles that you may not find be able to find elsewhere locally. There's also space near the back of the store for game play. We collect Lego Minifigures, so we left with a couple of grab bags. Luckily we got some characters we didn't already have. Friendly customer service. 100% recommend. If/when the mall closes, I hope this business is able to relocate.
