Located in what used to be Sycamore Mall on the east side of town, The Hobby Corner is a great spot with a wide variety of items. It offers radio controlled items, games, models, puzzles, trains, tools, rockets, educational sets, and all sorts of cool toys. The shop carries a huge variety of hobby items like paints and supplies for model airplanes, as well as board games, Legos, puzzles, RPGs, miniatures, model trains, plastic models, sci-fi and anime stuff, science experiment sets, and many other fun things. It has the most variety in the area, with many unique and obscure titles. While not the variety of an online shop, they stock a general variety for all interests to remain a brick and mortar store. The excellent and knowledgeable staff is super friendly, very chill, and willing to go above and beyond to share their knowledge, including helping to repair and upgrade RC models. The store fosters a definite sense of community. It is clean, well-lit, with fair and reasonably priced items, and plenty of parking. There is an area for gaming in the back, including board game night on Thursdays, where you can also play a game anytime during the day. The shop also allows customers to sell their used board games for store credit. The coolest thing is that they will order anything not found in the store at no additional cost. It is hands down the best hobby and game store in Iowa City, a great place to go out of your way to visit, and is 100% recommended.
