These people have no interest in actually selling you a car! Do not waste your time! & absolutely do not pay to ship anything to this location.
2 cars I had shipped in, and they both had a title issue. One from Naperville, IL and one from Georgia.
First car shipped April 26th. (I have literally been trying to purchase a vehicle from them since APRIL.) I was willing to wait for the issue to be resolved, but after 10 weeks… I am moving on and should have weeks ago, but they kept leading me to believe “just one more week.”
Second car shipped July 5th. They told me they verified with the Georgia location and they assured me that this vehicle wouldn’t have any title issues… and then I, again, had to call them after it said the Quality Check had been completed, for them to turn around and tell me it had the exact same issue as the previous car I had shipped…
It has to be a joke, right!?
What an unprofessional, unpleasant, unsatisfying experience!
I finally went elsewhere! C & S Car Company has a large inventory and I purchased a vehicle from them the very first day I communicated with them, within a 4 hour time span.
It is a limited edition of the car I was originally interested in from CarMax, less miles- for the same price!

#1 They have a very nice young man at the front that listens very well and sets you up with a representative. #2 I found Lea a delight to work with, she asked all the right questions you wouldn't think to supply and knows her stock very well. I enjoyed my time discussing needs and having a seat in some cars. It was a good experience.

If you value your time, please don't waste it with this store. I made an appointment to test drive a car, and even arrived 5 minutes early. The sales associate that helped me when my partner and I first walked in was very friendly. They confirmed my appointment and instructed me to sit down and someone would be with me in (this is important), NO TIME at all. My partner and I sat down and I looked around the store, envisioning a great experience. The entire building was clean, well staffed, and bright. I noticed most employees sitting at their desks or speaking to one another, so I thought 'wow, maybe I'll be helped right away!'
Oh, how silly this assumption of mine was. Fast forward FORTY MINUTES LATER, several other customers are waiting while employees are chilling in the break room and chatting with each other at their desks. One customer is being helped by another sales associate. Let me remind you, this is 6:30 p.m. on a Thursday night.
We ended up leaving at about 6:40 p.m. Why make an appointment when you have to wait nearly an hour to be helped?
I'm usually not an unreasonable person. I'm not a Karen, and I understand employees should be allowed downtime. But it's just so frustrating to have to wait for that long when you see the store virtually empty, and you made an appointment.

I've not really had any success at this location trying to find the truck we are looking for.
Says it's available online, but when making the effort to go on-site and look. Approximately 10 min later. All three were marked as unavailable with a red sticker. Was told by an employee when I went to take my name off the wait list. Those stickers can't be trusted.
Sorry Carmax, I don't have time to figure out your store issues.
2 star rating as they were at least open and in the location posted.

Car dealerships have never been a favorite place of mine. Genuinely had nothing but positive experiences here. Especially Mary Beth with the service department, she was nothing but helpful. Seriously one of the best customer facing people I have ever meet. Thank you so so much for your help! Please if anyone from management sees this let her know and show her how amazing she is!

i had a really good experience with CarMax! the salesman was obviously new and i had a couple of minor issues with him but nothing serious. also the paperwork got screwed up but again nothing serious. then they didn't let the state know that they kept my old plates so i ended up having to go down to the DOT to pick up new plates since they didn't mail them, thinking i had the old plates. BUT i love my new car and overall it was a good experience.

Paid $200 and Ordered a Chevy Silverado to be transferred from Algonquin, IL to Des Moines. Was supposed to be “ready to drive” no later than 6/19/24. (Yesterday) It’s now a day later than and after 4 phone calls, no one has any additional information. The status is “We’ll let you know” on the tracking webpage. And the business office in the store won’t pick up the phone even when I’ve been transferred into the actual store. So, it looks like I’ve just been scammed out of $200… because I have no actual proof as to what has and hasn’t been done. Just horrible business communication.

Besides the fact I was first to arrive and first on the board with scheduled appointment I lost my position to someone that came in after I did so I had to wait a little longer than I wanted to, everything went smooth after that.

I found a Jaguar XK on the Carmax website but it was in California. They are difficult to find so I paid for it to be transport to here in Iowa. When it arrived there were a few cosmetic issues that were handled, but there were problems in transferring the title. The problem went on for quite a while so Carmax refunded the transportation costs. Still no resolution, so they offered to transport a different vehicle for free if I could find one. I was lucky enough to find another XK on the Carmax website after a couple of weeks and they stood by their commitment. Not only that, they reimbursed me for the car to be professionally detailed. It was a long and frustrating experience but throughout the process I always felt that the staff I was dealing with were on my side and doing their best to look after me. They were always courteous and friendly, which means a lot. I do question why Carmax would ship a vehicle if they weren’t sure the tile could be transferred, though. Again, that is no reflection on local people and what felt like a corporate commitment to make things right—very important.

I purchased a vehicle from CarMax in February. Last week it started running rough and shaking and stalling at stops. The check engine light came on so I took it to a mechanic. The mechanic determined that it had less than 1 quart of oil in it. It doesn't leak any oil, my garage floor is bone dry. Mechanic said there's no oil underneath to indicate a leak. I've just been driving a car with dangerously low oil for 3 months that's causing damage to the motor. I called CarMax and since it's 2 weeks past the 90 day warranty and I didn't purchase their expensive MaxCare I'm out of luck. I don't consider this a warranty issue. They messed up and didn't put oil in the vehicle when they did the inspection. That's on them, not on a warranty. If I did that, a warranty wouldn't cover it. They claim it did have oil in it but the evidence says otherwise. I've seen a lot of other stories similar to this and would not recommend buying any vehicles from CarMax. Lots of similar horror stories on the CarMax reddit forum. STAY AWAY

I am a past customer, as are many of my family members. We purchased my wife's car at your store. My sister also bought a car at your store. My other sister, brother-in-law and their adult children have bought cars at CarMax in KC. Our daughter bought her last vehicle at CarMax in Maryland. The sales experience was pleasant as always. As soon as we paid to have a car shipped and agreed on the trade-in, the experience became an epic fail. I understand the 8 days to ship the vehicle, but not the two weeks after it arrived to process the title. This eliminates one of the best features of the CarMax business model, a nationwide inventory. After the nearly 3 week wait to complete the purchase, we just wanted to get the car and have the deal done (we paid cash). The vehicle had been run through a car wash, but all door sills were extremely dirty, and there was a lot of mud in the cowling. The vehicle that I traded in was cleaner than this nearly new vehicle. There was damage to the right side mirror and door trim (not shown in the pre-purchase images). There is a very annoying, persistent and very un-Honda-like rattle in the door with the damage. I purchased a new trim piece from a local dealer as the damaged one was certainly loose and rattling. There is still a rattle. I'll have to remove the door panel and search for loose parts or hard surfaces vibrating against one another. Their was curb rash on the wheels. I purchased a touch up kit and painted the gouges. This experience was very disappointing. I don't want to drive 130 miles round trip to CarMax with these issues that should not have occurred in the first place.

I was selling my car. The process was quick and painless. The reps were friendly, helpful and professional. Overall, my experience was extremely positive and the people made it hassle-free. I will recommend CarMax to my friends and relatives.
