Amazing museum celebrating the life of John Wayne. Lots of information from his childhood as well as an abundance of Hollywood memorabilia related to The Duke and his movies.

An amazing location taking up most of the block. It includes the visitors center in my picture plus the birthplace.I delivered papers to the birthplace in the 1970s when it was still privately owned.Met his daughter there when the birthplace stamp launched.A must see for any John Wayne fan.

The John Wayne birthplace and museum was a destination for me and my husband. It was worth the time, admission, and 6hr drive. The staff is friendly and helpful. We will come back because we forgot to get a couple of souvenirs And to see more of the covered bridges in the area. Remember the Bridges of Madison County? Yup, they are near.

This is our second visit to this museum, the first being two years ago. We decided a return visit was in order as they were currently building a new gallery. I originally believed this was in order to house additional undisplayed items, but learned on this trip it was more likely to decrease the clutter of the original space. The gift shop is one of the best, much better stocked and reasonably priced than the John Wayne museum in Texas.

We drove 31/2 hours from Harrisonville mo.I haven't been there about 20+ years ago, before it was a museum,,,just his birth houseNOW IT IS WONDERFULL, we went 9-28-23, it is a great place. When I entered, I felt humbled, almost a religious experience for me,,his clothes, guns, diorama. displays, even a small movie theater, of his daughter spoke of his history,, I plan to go again for sure, loved it,,

A fun visit. Being from Southern California was interesting to see the collection of memorabilia and little house that is being preserved in Iowa.Best part are the stories from the museum curators!Might be a little overcharge but the town of Winterset is nicely preserved with other tourists attractions and fun to walk around. Bridges of Madison Couny is nearby too. All in all an enjoyable side trip from the highway.

I really enjoyed the museum and birthplace of John Wayne. The staff was amazing. The Alamo model of the movie set was spectacular! OMG! The town of Winterset was like taking a step back in time. The courthouse was in the middle of the town square, and all the old buildings surrounding it. It's very refreshing to meet nice people, they come so few and far between nowadays. This is a must see for any John Wayne fan. The gift shop has wide range of items to choose from. Something for everyone!

I have always loved this guy since I was a kid. He seemed like he could always save the world and make it better. You knew you could depend on him. That somehow someway he would make it right. The 1st time I saw the movie The Searchers I was hooked I watched that movie at least 100 times & after looking for Debbie for 5 long years you couldn't wait for him to chase her down that hill & take her in his arms and tell her to lets go home or after he takes her home and suddenly he's standing alone at that doorway and turns and walks away how could you watch that and not be moved to tears? The museum was great seeing all his personal items along with all the moviememorabilia from so many movies. It's hard to picture him making that many movies. Outside the museum circling it there are stones listing all his movies he ever made I thought that was really cool. I believe that everyone did like I did look to find your favorite movie. They have a short movie about him (that I think is great) and I think that should be the 1st thing you do to put you in a John Wayne sort of mind. Step into his world and enjoy all that they have to offer. So walking into his childhood home was like unreal he was a little kid here how could you picture him ever being a little kid playing with his brother having a mom and dad just like everyone else.Let me tell you I had a really great day just me and the duke hanging out

Back when his house was the intire museum, A lady named Priscilla ran it all. I donated a lot of items at that time and helped with different projects. Then I heard that "higher ups" wanted to turn it into a money making operation and she left. I was at the new museum 2 years ago and asked about Priscilla and the items I donated, (due to not seeing them out). They blew me off. Said they didn't have time to answer questions. But they had time to take my money in the gift shop. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT
