Flagship Books fits well with the Strawberry Hill arts community vibe. The small store is a comfortable space with a good range of books by local authors as well as a selection of other new and used books. The owners are also happy to order books they don't have in stock, making this an excellent alternative to Amazon. Though this review is based on my first visit, I plan to keep an eye out for Flagship-hosted readings and other events.

Ty and Joel do a great job working with you to track down copies of books you're looking for, whether they are new or used. Big Open Book Club is an awesome event they host every month to bring readers together without forcing people to read the same book. The new location is awesome and spacious! They have a great selection of used books and local KC authors' works.

We have been searching for locally owned bookstores, this one came up.Great atmosphere, great selection, variety of different genres. Was pleasantly surprised by the selection.Cozy, great mural on the wall where you can draw in your favorite book on the "book shelf"We left with a arm full of books, thrilled with our "discovery".

A cozy book nook atmosphere paired with a wonderful selection of used and new titles, made for a wonderful trip to one of my little sister and I's new favorite book perusing experiences in all of Kansas City!

Must see the sunny and cute new location near downtown KCK. This is an independent bookstore that hosts literary events for the community—support these guys!

Cozy, cute bookstore but don’t let its smaller size fool you…it’s a well-curated, thoughtful, local independent bookshop. A mix of new and used books, wonderful selection of newer fiction titles, a poetry shelf, a Spanish section, local histories and stories section, local authors, diverse children’s chapter books and more for younger readers, etc. Very intentional assortment of books as well ensuring authors of color were prominent amongst traditional Western classics as well, and I so appreciated seeing that front and center.I felt confident I could explore and find books I’ve been wanting for awhile and also find new-to-me perspectives and voices. For example, there were books featuring a collection of essays from the perspective of its disabled female author to the writings of James Baldwin to a great selection of books by Indigenous authors. I ended up walking away with four books of wildly different genres and topics that I’ve had on my to-buy list for ages and I’m delighted to have found them all here, especially since I came in not looking for anything in particular.Apparently they’re moving to a larger space down the block in a couple weeks and I’m looking forward to seeing the new place. I’ll definitely be back!

I love going to locally owned-bookstores. They just seem to need my help. In a world of digital books, who really needs 'used' books? I guess the good people of KC do. They have a nice selection of paperbacks, hardcovers, puzzles, kids' books. etc. It's a small store so don't expect a huge selection. but there are some nice surprises of newish releases and older copies. be sure to help support this local shop.

Please visit this local business which is open and operating by two brothers who want to give the community a place where kids and families can continue with the tradition of reading physic books, nourishing their knowledge, enjoying the adventure, and getting creative. This place has a variety of books and buying some of them makes you become a supporter of those types of amazing ideas which reconnect us with our traditions. Everyone is welcome to enjoy this quiet environment full of lovely intentions for our youngest, kids, and adults around.!

This book store has it all. Used, new, local authors, all genres and kids books. The employee chatted with us about the books we were considering and made helpful recommendations. The book store is small but certainly worth a visit - you’ll find what you’re looking for. It was nice to shop in a bookstore that was well organized and just small enough to not be overwhelming like many other book stores. They gave us stickers and bookmarks with our purchase!

Great loca bookstore! All about cultivating community and supporting writers and artist the same. I love a neighborhood bookstore that really embodies the meaning of local and small business models knowing that their guest and community are as much a part of their success as other aspects. Something I think a lot of locally owned bookstores in the KCMO/KS area have forgotten. So glad to have this gem here in our city! Stop by and also! Don't forget about all the great events they have coming up!
