This is a hidden gem. It is always packed, and the staff is knowledgeable. I found fish that no other pet store carries locally. They also have two massive tanks with rare, beautiful, and enormous display fish. It is worth a visit just to see their display tanks.

We love Pet World and all the education and opportunities they provide to the community. On this trip I needed some Science Diet for my cats but choices were limited - and I would have purchased a large bag if available. Prices have definitely gone up, like everywhere for everything. I don't mind paying more to support a local business but I may have to go to online to fit the budget. ?Update: Still using Pet World for the most part. Please take your used plastic grocery bags (without holes) for them to reuse!Update: they were fully stocked with Science Diet cat food (at least until I stocked up...). One of the workers discussed some specific care needs and made very helpful suggestions.

Stopped by the store today for the 1st time. The young man that helped us with the fish was very nice and patient with me. Gave me loads of advice about tank mates. I will definitely drive the 1.5 hours to visit again. Prices are very reasonable!

Best place to buy fish ever! The employees who've sold me my fish have all been friendly and knowledgeable and the fish *mostly* stay alive once in my home! Fish keeping is a gamble but the fish I get from here are always healthier and live much longer than the fish I've gotten at either Petco or Safari Pets in Topeka. Definitely worth the drive and after so many bad experiences elsewhere Pet World is the only fish store for me! ?

Super worms from this store killed my wife's dragon. We didn't need an autopsy to figure that out. Buyer beware!

Bought super worms for my bearded dragon yesterday, fed him 4 after work and he's dead this morning. Called and got a response saying there's no way it could've been their feeders. That's the only thing I've done with his feeding that was different. Will not be back in this store. EVER!

I'm the kind of pet parent that needs to visit every isle at the pet store now (reptile, feline, aviary, and k9). I have to say they had a nice selection for everything. I loved their selection of freeze dried raw foods and treats for both feline and k9. They had a great aviary selection including treats, toys, and carriers. I wish they carried healthier pellets such as harrisons, but I can order that online. They had a beautiful selection of wood for birds and reptiles, but I wish they had hanging hides for reptiles. This store sells exotic animals, and a family was impulse buying a hedgehog. I know it's the employee's job to sell, but I feel like the store shouldn't allow impulse purchases on animals, especially exotics. The family had no idea how to take care of it. The employee seemed pretty knowledgeable at least.

Awesome! Great selection of fresh water fish, better than any store near kansas city. Fantastic staff that are knowledgeable and friendly. Great reptile selection as well. They have everything you need.

I hope this doesn't get buried amongst all the other reviews of this place. In their bio, Pet world states that, "We pledge solidarity with all kind, respectful, nature and animal loving people, standing together with people of all color, regardless of background, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical ability, zip code or lack thereof". A close friend applied to Pet World and was strung along for a full month and lied to by the employees about whether or not he was going to be hired. Instead, after stringing him along, they said he, "Lacked the ability to understand social cues" and let him go with no warning. It's a cruel, careless thing to do to another person. Lawrence has a host of cheaper, friendlier alternatives to shop for pets. Petsmart and Petco are nearby and I have never had a bad experience there. Please consider supporting businesses who actually honor their promises to be accepting of others.

Love this pet store. It's so good that it is recommended by my local pet store in Topeka.
