“The store is stocked full of so many different items. It really is a downtown gem both for the residents of downtown and those who work nearby and need to grab items before hitting the road. The store is usually pretty clean with registers at both entrances of the store. The liquor department is fantastic. they also have freshly prepared foods as well as lots of good produce and meats. There is a small private lot where you can park that is specifically for the sore. The staff is usually pretty friendly, but there have been some less than helpful employees on occasion. I think the later you go, the less attentive they are or the more they're looking at their phones. However, it is a good store.”

“What a lovely find in Baton Rouge! I was looking for a place to pick up lunch, the muffuletta was delicious! Quaint little deli carved into this family style grocery store. I could have spent hours in this little gem. Make sure you pick up some of the olive salad, labeled with the Calandro's name. The best around.”

“The butcher counter here is epic and well-stocked, with knowledgeable staff and friendly service. If you don’t see what you want they got it in the back. Really good coffee, convenient hours, gumbo in the afternoon. I go once a week to get great cuts of real soul food ingredients - today I got incredibly flavorful beef “bones” for my roasted bone broth. And they offer package specials like 100lbs of various types of meat for $169 and a “Monday Night Game Grilling Special”. Avoid exorbitant high prices for supermarket-grade cuts at “boutique butchers” by visiting Ancona’s 100%!”

“Calandros carries one of the most flavorful king cakes in the city! They also carry items I can't find elsewhere. Close, convenient, good, fresh meat, fresh and unblemished produce are always available. They also have a great cheese selection and plenty of ready to go foods in the deli. “It's most definitely authentic African market if I've ever seen one. Service was exceptional, the one and only worker took time to get me info so I could eat authentic African food from restaurant nearby. She was helpful and respectful, and very pleasant. I felt like I'd been transported to a true market. The items in stock were interesting. If you make baobab juice this is the place to re up and they also sell halal meat. I will be going back”
