“This place is like eating at your grandma, when you pop in for half hour lunch between laundrymat chores and post office and say that you’re hungry. If you are lucky enough to get a table during their hours of operation - you must!”

“Please do yourself a favor and take the cooking class!! The sticker price might be a little scary but it’s 10000000% worth it! (plus if you account for the fact that it is 3h long, plus you get museum admission and a tour, AND a whole3-course meal out of it, it really makes sense!) Also a lifetime of knowing how to make your own Gumbo? Priceless. It felt like being in my aunt’s kitchen again; something I haven’t felt since I was a little kid! We learned:- how to flambé spiced rum for bananas foster- how to stir the pot properly to make roux for gumbo- what order in which to cook the “holy trinity” to keep your dish from just tasting like onions (don’t just throw them all in at the same time!)- how to keep roux balls from seizing up- never get splashed by hot soup again: the “dump truck” method for pouring something solid into a hot pot of liquid- so many other priceless cooking tips! Also it comes with a museum tour and the tour guide (Sue?) was amazing and so passionate about the museum. She has so many fascinating stories, I could listen to her all day.”

“The professional, friendly, and caring staff all seem to love what they do. They’ve cared for our rescue for about seven years now, during which time they’ve diagnosed and treated an uncommon allergy issue that another vet could not, a collapsed trachea and dental issues. Costs are transparent and reasonable. The facility is clean and accessible. Appointment/in-person wait times are generally short. Though call wait times can often be a bit long, administratively, the clinic is run very well.”

“A place to donate my materials and also pick up up anything that might be needed for renovation. From a stray bucket of mud, old windows that cost thousands to have made, to old doors, Ive gotten awesome deals over the years and love the kind of people who are employed there - helpful and friendly, you won't meet angry staff.. at least I haven't in 13 years. A real service to the community and a greener future.”

“The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere. The service was also very great. The food was good, but a bit pricey for a smaller portion. The music was done just after 8, which was a little disappointing.”

“My two Aunts, Alice Margaret Padel and Claire Padel Modenbach started teaching students with disabilities how to sew at this facility. In fact, my Aunt, Alice Padel worked initially for Rutter Rex and then she went on to own her own manufacturing facility on Magazine Street named SegMar. This facility made uniform blouses, fashionable blouses, and dungarees. My Aunt Claire sewed and worked with my Aunt Alice at this facility as well. I lived in Gentilly and every time we had a hurricane, our family went to SegMar and we slept on top the fabric cutting tables. Those cutting tables and sewing machines were donated to Strive by my Aunt Alice. In fact, her photo is on the wall as a Director. I still have many carnival souvenirs that were made by the students who went to school at this facility. Those students who work there are the unsung heroes. This is a wonderful place to get a snack on Mardi Gras weekend. What a great way to show support for those less fortunate. The staff will be friendly, they always are! If you need something put together for carnival, you may hire these students. A WIN/WIN”
