The worst used-car cliché come to life.
I’m a reasonable 62-year-old man with realistic expectations when dealing with a large corporation. I understand that even good companies can have an incompetent employee. At CarMax, however, incompetence appears to be systemic—a chain of dysfunction, miscommunication, and complete disregard for the customer.
Our experience began when we found what seemed to be the perfect SUV, located at a CarMax several states away in Tampa. Almost immediately, we were flooded with automated texts, emails, and calls about our interest. We were offered the option to pay $300 to have the vehicle shipped to our local store for a test drive, with an estimated arrival window of December 26 through January 2. We agreed, paid the fee, and completed financing and paperwork with a salesperson.
January 2 came and went with no communication. When we contacted CarMax, we were told the vehicle was still “in transit” and that no one could provide an estimated arrival date. We were also informed that CarMax uses a third-party transporter and has no way to contact them. That explanation alone should concern anyone considering a purchase.
After escalating to a customer service supervisor, I was told the vehicle was actually already at my local dealership and that we would be contacted on January 5. We were not.
When we called the local dealership in Kenner, LA, the general manager told us the vehicle was still in transit and delayed. I informed him that the vehicle had been pinged on his lot days earlier. He assured me the process would be expedited and that someone would reach out regarding EXPRESS pickup. No one did.
One final attempt to get answers resulted in yet another vague explanation: the vehicle was now being moved from a storage lot for inspection and would be ready within 24 hours—days after we were first told it had arrived.
It’s remarkable how quickly accountability disappears once you’ve already purchased a CarMax vehicle. No one seems to have answers, authority, or concern—even at the management level. The Kenner, LA CarMax exemplifies a culture of neglect and indifference.
I can’t mention competitors by name here, but I strongly recommend the one that sounds like “Nana.”

So today my sister and I went in she got a new car and as she was signing a well known local bakery By the name of Randazzo‘s walked in and brought CarMax a king cake. This is southeast Louisiana .
My sister asked a worker to ask the manager for a piece this Man said o no . ‘tis the season to be jolly . I was going to get me a car but not from this place . And as soon as I open my mouth said yeah that just. It right behind you just got a car off the lot and we in jolly season. And yeah some people might be like oh well get your own but it’s just the Principal And knowing it is Christmas time, as I said, ‘tis the season two will be Jolly la la la la la la la la. And have the nerves to tell my sister go to lunch spend $40 come back with the receipt and will give you $40 cash back. Me thank you but no thanks Instead of two cars coming off the lot you only got one to come off a lot.
No complain against the workers at all this is only on the manager of Carmax in Kenner,la

CarMax Kenner has an excellent Service Dept! I had a few issues with the 2020 CX-5 I bought from them. Mia was always quick to respond to emails and phone calls. They provide me with Lyft rides and a loaner car while my car was being serviced at the Mazda dealership. Cheers!

Went for an appraisal to sell my car. Low balled the offer claiming they found a fluid leak. Tried calling to inquire about it. On hold for 12 minutes only to be told the appraiser would call back, which he never did. Turned out to be condensation from the AC.

Brought a lemon from the Kenner location. Out of 3 months, we had it for 3 days. Now it’s going back in the shop because they refuse to take it back.

Have used carmax many times in the past and never had an issue. This dealership however sold me a car that began overheating as soon as I left the parking lot. They also would not give me the down payment back that day and stated it would take almost a week to get the funds back. I would avoid carmax in Kenner.

Extremely happy with my purchase. Maurice Williams went above and beyond to answer questions and meet my expectations so I can have a good car buying experience. We worked with Kenny last night to purchase a new to us vehicle and trade in our old car and everything was seamless and efficient. I appreciate the no-haggling policy and the professionalism of all of the employees we encountered. Kenny was not pushy in any way and was available to answer all of our questions. I highly recommend going there for all of your vehicle needs.
