This review has more to do with the billing service and transparency than the actual service.
Unfortunately, my wife took a nasty fall at home and was transported by ambulance to Lafayette General due to a head injury. She was evaluated in the trauma center and released approximately three hours later.
I nor my wife had any issues with the level of service while she was there. They were attentive and assured us she was fine to return home.
We settled back at home and over the next several weeks we waited for the bills to arrive to see what the insurance would cover. To our surprise, our portion after insurance wasn't that bad until, we received a bill from EMBCC for services.
As it turns out, EMBCC bills for emergency room doctors separately from hospital billing. The doctor that treated my wife was contracted to Lafayette General's emergency room. In so being, that doctor uses EMBCC for those services. Unfortunately, not the doctor nor EMBCC even bothers to obtain the patient's insurance information from the hospital. Therefore, in our case, my wife was again surprised to get a doctor's bill from EMBCC for over $2,200.00 with no detail what so ever about services rendered.
Normally, this would be a low review of EMBCC but, Lafayette General employs the services of these contracted ER Doc's.
I am truly disappointed in Lafayette General. I assumed patient health was of paramount importance. Kinda looks like its all about $$$$$. They get theirs's and over look their contractor's practices!
Ok, I reached out to Ochsner's as these guys from EMBCC are absolutely terrible to deal with regarding requested payment.
1yr later, I'm still receiving threats from EMBCC for payment without them providing any requested information reference, the doctor, his services or an itemized bill. The bill still contains no detail and supposedly has never been filed with my insurance!
What a total scam that is completely overlooked by Ochsner's which also will not provide any detail regarding this doctor's bill!

I went in to the ER on 10/02/24 at approximately 4:30pm. The receptionist was nice when checking me in. I was sent to triage. The nurses were sweet and knowledgeable. The purpose of my visit was severe pain in my abdomen. I have muscular dystrophy, which makes my health tricky. Now after being returned to the waiting room, I waited for 4 hours more. My pain at this point had me sweating and trembling in my wheelchair. My sister asked the receptionist if I could be brought in the back to lay down. I think this would have eased some of my pain. She was told there were no bays. I saw 4 open when I went in the back for a urine sample. We made the decision at that point, I couldn't wait any longer. As we were leaving, the receptionist yelled out to us. I don't know what she wanted, but at that point, it served no purpose to find out. After 4 plus hours with no examination or tests of any kind, including bloodwork, I was done. I went to Lourdes ER in Scott. I was in and out in 3 hours with a battery of tests. I was diagnosised with a gallbladder attack. I received great care. Now, I worked in the service industry for 40 yrs so I can tell you the problem, too little staffing. I saw 2 Nurses, excluding triage, and 1 orderly. They were doing the best they could with what they had. Do better.

The entire staff and hospital is amazing. My husband surgery and was in ICU and getting the BEST personal care. Thank you to all the staff and doctors of Ochsners for caring. Your jobs are tough yet you perform it gracefully and patiently. ❤️

The patient care from the Doc was horrible!!! My father was brought into your facility with agitation, which he also has sort memory loss and 76. My mother has power of attorney over him for medical reasons. The doc never once came and talk to her. They never told her what medication they were giving him with that being said poor care. The two nurses was excellent they came out and talk to us. They were not aware of new medications nor was the doc interested by his actions. We were unaware they were send him to Alexander to the VA till the nurse spoke to us. We could not see him because he was pecd. The next morning I had to called to speak with the doc and I “ He does not speak to patients family’s over the phone” .Well he don’t speak to families at all that has a family member with medical conditions. So being said this the care was DISGUSTING from the Doc.They also did not notify us that the VA was not taking him he was going to oceans. I just want to say that is just is truly sad that that Doc thinks and cares for his patients in that manner. It’s funny how they wouldn’t want there family members treated in such manner.

They left me in the waiting room for 4 hours. I passed out twice, asked if there was somewhere i could safely lay down flat since I was passing out. Was told no. Ended up sitting backwards on a chair and holding onto the back to try and keep myself from falling on the ground. No access to water and my loved ones were not allowed to stay with me in the waiting room to assist me. Turns out I had sepsis. They pretty much were allowing me to die slowly in the waiting room. Never ever ever will go here again even if it’s the last hospital on earth.
Another time, the nurse in charge of starting my IV did not go into a vein. she went into muscle and began administering IV fluids. when i screamed and asked them to take it out and told them it was burning and something as wrong she rolled her eyes and yanked my arm and told me i was fine. i continued screaming and after awhile she giggled and said “OOPPS! i missed the vein”

Super clean, super knowledgeable staff helped with my finger. It did take four hours in emergency room, but there was a lot of other patients with more serious issues !

Nurses and doctors and others were super nice to me, they have a lot of care and compassion towards their parents and are patient. Restrooms were neat and clean (as always) and kept me informed of test being administered

ER staff was great but the surgeon my wife had was very minimal with his details and explaining about the surgery. Waiting three hours for an update to the point where I had to start asking until I finally got an update that I should have received right after her surgery.

Nurses are lazy, unsafe, and unprofessional and when they are called for help and other things, they take forever to come to the patient room

If I could give lower than a 1 I would. Completely rude, no regard for human life in person and over the phone. I would not bring a rat to get care here!

My wife had a very low heart rate, so I decided to take her over to the emergency room at Lafayette General. We were sent to the "FAST TRACK" area...there we sat from 7PM until 2AM, with out a doctor seeing her...NO room, NO doctor, very dirty with trash, paper, etc scattered around the holding area, not sanitary, just sitting & waiting...WHAT A JOKE ❗️
We will never return to that "emergency room".
DO NOT TAKE YOUR LOVED ONE TO THIS JOINT❗️

Our nurse Tracey was horrible. She would walk in and not speak to anyone. Never introduced herself and would not offer to assist. She would answer the nurse call button but never come in the room to check and sold take 45 when requesting pain medication.
8th floor
She would argue with my doter and daughter. Completely rude and unprofessional. She is clearly should not be dating for people.

When my husband and I arrived, we were sent to the triage waiting room. He was seen by the nursing team due to gallbladder pain. He had already had labs done on Monday by his primary care physician. The nursing team order the same labs again which I thought was ridiculous bc nurse #1 saw and read his labs. Then we were sent to the back for labs and an ultrasound of the gallbladder. Four hours later we are in the main waiting room still waiting. At this time, my husband was done waiting. We let the receptionist know we were going to leave. That’s when the receptionist said to wait bc he needed to register him. Now, why wasn’t this done prior to being there. Also there were 4 trauma’s that came in from an ambulance and these poor patients were just taken off the stretcher and placed in the eating room as us. Also,t husbands mother and cousin couldn’t stay in the main waiting groom with us. This hospital is unsanitary and unorganized. We will not be returning for any reasons. This is not how an ER should
be operated. Other visitors there were inquiring on loved ones that were already placed in a room and there was no information given to them. This is unacceptable and ridiculous. Oschner should have never been able to take over Lafayette General. You showed last night that the money you receive from patients is more important than patient care.
