Degas House is a historic and charming building located in a beautiful neighborhood of New Orleans. It is known as the only remaining home and studio of the French artist Edgar Degas, who stayed there for five months in 1872-1873. During his time, Degas completed 18 paintings and 4 drawings in this space. The house serves multiple purposes, including hosting events and functioning as a bed and breakfast, making it a versatile and interesting spot for visitors. The exterior of the house is well kept, with lovely grounds that reflect the historic charm of the area. The neighborhood is quiet, safe, and extremely walkable, with many beautiful homes and nearby restaurants. Visitors can learn about Degas’ time in New Orleans through walking tours that include videos, house walkthroughs, and neighborhood walks, guided by knowledgeable hosts. Though the house is not always open for tours, the venue is suitable for events like weddings and gatherings, with decorated outdoor areas and a peaceful atmosphere. Ample parking is available, and the venue provides a quaint setting for celebrations or sightseeing. Despite occasional issues like unavailable access or minor technical problems during events, Degas House remains a notable destination for those interested in art history, architecture, or special events in a historic setting.
We took the tour and had the pleasure of meeting Joan, a descendant of one of Edgar’s cousins. Her explanation of Degas’s time in NOLA was fascinating. The tour was well worth it. Definitely recommend!

There was no heat when I was there for our event. Moderately uncomfortable, kind of tight and spread out depending on what kind of event you are hosting here.

Attended a wedding. Did not stay. Friendly and attentive service. Pretty historic buildings with New Orleans character.
