This was our first visit to the Maine Maritime Museum and we loved it! In January & February, on the weekends they have free admission. Because of the winter weather, the outside exhibits are off-limits but that didn't bother us. We started off by watching a short video about the history of ship building and the museum grounds. I learned so much! The exhibits were very thoughtful and helped to tell the stories of folks who built these massive ships. I especially liked the lighthouse light, the tugboat display, and the lighthouse keeper's exhibit. There is also a large collection exploring climate change and its impact on the Gulf of Maine. There's very scenic views of the Kennebec River from inside. The restrooms were clean, the volunteers were kind and knowledgeable, and there's a lovely giftshop as well. We are planning on returning in the summer to explore the outside exhibits too.

It is a perfect museum to visit if you are remotely interested in maritime history or that of Maine's. Great exhibits throughout the property that are engaging for visitors.

We should have gotten an earlier start…so much fabulousness to take in! We spent a little time inside the main building and then it was time to take the boat trip up the Kennebec past the Bath shipyard with two guides keeping us informed of the history of shipbuilding in Bath and pointing out what we were seeing around us…wonderfully done by these guides. After docking we did visit 2 of the original buildings on site and plan to return later in the week to continue taking in all the exhibits. It is a first class museum!

The Maine Maritime Museum was so much more than I expected. There are 6 working buildings on 3 or 4 acres that are in daily use building, restoring and displaying historical boats. Includes a blacksmith shop, sail loft, carpentry shop, boat displays the list goes on. The main museum is an incredible display of maritime history, historical pictures, ship parts, maritime stories, maritime trailblazers and the building and use of ships for centuries. You don't have to love ships to love this museum. A ticket allows 2 days to see everything... and you'll need it.. AND there are cruises that show the Kenebec River and historical points of interest.

Wow wow wow! What a place. Amazing volunteers running the information desks, and a well-appointed interior with incredible exhibits. As we arrived, the museum attendant asked if we would like to go on a cruise of the bay which was departing within 30 mins of our arrival, so of course we said yes. The cruise was an hour long, and the docent was knowledgeable and gave us a great education on the history of the bay as well as up to date information on the ships being built for the navy. We would highly recommend the museum and cruise, and next time we visit Maine, we would love to take the 3-hour tour of the bay!

I haven't been to the Maine Maritime Museum in over 15 years!! It has grown and evolved and, frankly, better than ever. We went to take guests from Portland, Oregon - people we know love museums and boy, did they love it and so did we. Wayne has never been, so he was amazed, and we are planning our return trip. We weren't prepared for the cruise (I had done it before, but...) and so we spent all of our time exploring the many exhibits. I am still in awe of the sculpture interpretation of the Wyoming - holy cow! Having grown up among lobstermen it was kinda cool to watch the videos & I really like the lighthouse and the different paintings. It has changed a LOT over the years, and it was amazing. One thing we noted - when we knew we were going I went to the website to see if there was a AAA or AARP discount, there isn't BUT there is a NARM discount (North American Reciprocal Museum). That means that if you have a membership in a participating organization, you are granted reciprocal privileges at the Maine Maritime Museum - awesome!

Super friendly, super knowledgeable folks cruising you along the Kennebec River showing off lighthouses, wildlife (bald eagles) and the Bath Iron Works. Very cool museum as well. Recommended during a visit to Bath.

A must-see on the Maine coast. The main building has thoughtful, informative exhibits, well-placed to make the most of a small-medium space. It's artful as well, with rotating displays. The curators are obviously talented. There are also a half dozen out buildings with lots of info about shipyard functions, a 2-story Lobsterman museum, and even a playground. The two best parts are the full size minimalist statue of the tall ship, Wyoming (be sure to take the free tour or listen to it on an app), and the boat tour of the harbor (extra $$, but worth it). Use the very clean bathrooms or have some refreshments on the on-premesis food and snack shack. A nice way to spend an informative and delightful short afternoon. Plenty of parking. Gift shop is very good.

This was an absolutely delightful, interactive, engaging, and well developed museum. We took the boat cruise and the captain and guide were extremely knowledgeable and able to share the history and the area in such a manner that catered to each individual. We also caught sight of a singular experience while cruising by the impressive and rich, historically and presently relevant Bath Iron Works. There was an active boat launch day complete with current Navy Destroyers being built. There was also a brief history of Bath, sightseeing of the area lights, sea lion sightings, bird watching novelties, two foxes, and a bald eagle nest witnessed. There are so many things to love about this entire property, not just the cruise and the museum, proper, but everything available to those who adventure and learn here. The blacksmithing, area, naval, and nautical history, lobstering, the out of the ballpark chowder at the snack shed..., the art installations, and of course the lighthouse experience and lighthouse keepers... This was the quintessential coastal Maine experience and a true highlight of our time in the area. If you haven't been, this is worth the trip. Half a day simply wasn't enough time to experience everything and everyone here. There were entire sections we simply didn't have enough time to see in the timeframe we had available on Monday, but certainly a treasure to look forward to and a reason to return. Thank you!
