Laundry in Ellsworth, ME

“It was time for another laundry stop on our cross-country RV trip, and we selected Eden because - frankly - it was the only one in our travel path for days that didn’t have some pretty scary sounding recent reviews.

When we arrived at 9:30 on a Friday morning, there were about 5 other folks doing laundry, but plenty of machines free since there are simply so many of them there. First impressions were that this laundromat was particularly clean and tidy, with an attendant on-site to help/answer questions. WiFi was speedy (Speedtest measured 85 Mbps down, 11 up), and the restroom was clean.

There were 4 sizes of washers available, with sizes marked somewhat obscurely as 2x, 3x, 4x, 6x (priced at $4, $5, $7, $9 respectively) instead of by pound capacity like we’re used to seeing. The smallest machines were too small to fit our whites or colors, so we had to use a pair of the 3x machines (which look closer in size to 25-30 lb washer we’re used to using elsewhere) instead. Although the 3x machines fit our loads comfortably, the spin cycle left the clothes noticeably damper than we’re used to - particularly the socks in the white load, and the denim items in the color load.

There are 2 sizes of dryers available as well, labeled similarly obscurely as 3x and 5x (where $0.25 will buy you 6 and 5 minutes respectively). The 5x looked the size we usually combine our loads into and can easily dry in 25 minutes, so we tried that here as well (it should be noted, perhaps, that 2 out of the 6 5x machines were out of order, and another one had a finicky control panel that we avoided using and another customer had to get help from the attendant to use). After 35 minutes, the socks and denim were still slightly damp (probably due to the insufficient spin cycles in the washers), but we just hung those up around the RV to finish drying.

All in all, Eden was not a bad laundromat. The washer prices were higher than what we’ve become used to in other parts of the country, but seem on par with other places in the area (based on what’s written in reviews). The reason for the 4 star instead of 5 star review was the insufficient spin cycle on the washers, requiring more time in the dryers to get the clothes fully dry.”
