The Budget team at Portland, Maine airport did an excellent job from start to finish. The staff was friendly, professional and customer oriented, all leading to a positive rental experience. Will definitely be renting from them on my next trip to Maine. Kudos to the staff!!!

Charged us 1800 bucks for two weeks. Our original rental was for 830. Offered us a free upgrade for my 40th birthday wasn’t free it was 300 bucks charges 163 dollars for easy pass which is 100 bucks more then the tolls by a mile. We brought it back with four miles less gas then give. Because it was the closest gas station another 190. So to use one tank of gas from budget it was over 1800 bucks. Completely rip off. Not what the girl told us at the counter at all off by like a grand and now we have dispute the charge because budget is only offering to remove the gas fee of 190 because we drove it 4 miles after filling it up. I will say this the guy at return straight told us to take a picture of everything because they were going to screw us hard. I will never use a budget car again. The most I have ever paid for a rental and the worst service. 1800 dollars for 2 weeks I could have leased a brand new car for 4 months for the same price.

Nice job at both the pick-up and return counter! Unfortunately, oil change was needed on the car, about the second day of rental, so it kept blocking my speed information and odometer information. Might be wise to ask, when you're checking in, whether the car is due for an oil change and/or notification???Also, there was NO owner's manual or details on all the gadgets for the car! Thus, it is a bit awkward to get in the car and spend time figuring everything out! Yes, I know most cars are about the same--but because these rentals are "cheaper models," there was no blind-side monitors (BSM) and a lot of other important driving aids which make safety easier in big city traffic!

BEWARE!!!!Be careful. Check your bank accounts. They charged me for fuel. I filled up the fuel tank past full mark before i returned it. I took a picture of the fuel gauge after I returned the vehicle to budget. (I always take pictures of the complete vehicle before I take possession and when i return the vehicle). I called them and complained and told them i had my receipt as well as a picture of the fuel gauge when i returned vehicle.My other experiences have been they have tried to charge me for damage to the vehicle. But they didn't know I had taking before and after pictures and the damage was existing. The Great thing about pictures they are time and date stamped so they cannot dispute them.I'm definitely finished renting vehicles through budget.Also, never prepay. I returned the vehicle 2 days early they do not reimburse the difference. But if your 5 minutes late they charge you for a full day.Consumer Beware!!!!

I rent directly from Budget, avoiding third party companies and the experience has always been good. I typically reserve a compact as I travel light, a benefit is always gas efficiency too.The cars I have rented are always sharp looking, clean and handle very good. In comparison to other rental agencies, I always get the best deal from Budget, especially for advance rentals.A side note, their offices are sometimes a little challenging to locate. I would have taken a star away of this reason, but the staff typically make up for any inconvenience.

Friendly and efficient check in and check out. The car was superior. Jens (? spelling) at check in and Heather at check out were outstanding at the Portland Maine jet port location. Beware the extra cost of add on protections as they contribute significantly to the ultimate cost of a rental car. Thank you again. Travel well.

Damage waiver insurance was added to my reservation at the time of pick up without my permission or request. I saw it on my final bill. When I called in to complain, I was told they could take off 30% of the insurance charge. I complained and the rep said, "OK, I can offer 50% off". I again voiced my displeasure and demanded to see some evidence that I signed anything accepting this coverage. The rep said she would speak to her supervisor and put me on hold. I was then told the $120 would be credited back to me. I have yet to see a refund credit on my credit card. This is NOT the kind of business I would ever want to work with again, nor would I recommend to a friend or colleague. I hope your company can get its act together to prevent nonsense like this in the future.

We recently used Budget Car Rental at the Portland, ME Jetport. It was a very late night pick up (11:45pm). The car was ready, the associate was very helpful. No problems at all even when we extended the rental by 12 hrs! Thank you for making our trip to Maine a pleasant one!!

On a two week vacation road trip and the car breaks down around 6:00 at night. It first stalled yesterday, so called and was told it was OK toco time driving. Thought it would be easy to call Budget and get a swap from the local Budget location. But after more than an hour on the phone I’m told the local Budget in Portland, ME “declined” the swap. They will get a car delivered from Boston 90 miles away. No ETA. After three hours of periodic texts that someone will call in 15 minutes, I get a call around 10:00 pm that the car will be here at around 1:30 am. No car at 2:00 am. I call again, told it was never going to be 1:30, told car will be here at 6:00 am. 7:00 and still no car.. Text Budget (you have to text and ask someone to call, takes about 15 minutes), told car will be here in 90 minutes. Get a call from the Budget “Escalation Team around 7:45 telling me it will be 60 to 90 minutes. Also this was a known issue that Chrysler notified owners about. Budget apparently decided not to fix it. Eventually called again around noon, got an escalation specialist who convinced Portland Budget to swap the car. In all, 17 hours. Finally the new car kept flashing that it needs an oil change. Budget doesn’t maintain their cars and their “Roadside Assistance is horrible.

Not happy that I was given a car that was not cleaned well (candy wrappers plus dirt in far back seats of mini van), plus a gas tank that was 1/4 full, which I had to fill after driving only 64 miles. Also the 'oil change needed' light appeared often. Once home, I was charged additional $99.00 for an extra driver, even though when we rented the vehicle I was told there only would be no charge for 2 drivers. Included in the above amount was a charge for gas, even though I returned the car with the tank full. Plus I had difficulty finding the right number to call to talk with a live body. After 3 calls, I am assured the extra charges will be refunded. Why do I have doubts????

Portland, ME airport pickup was fast and the attendant was very pleasant. Vehicle was good, however it had low tire pressure in every tire 28 psi when picked up. Dropoff was a little difficult only because the airport signage is terrible. The signs are very small and difficult to read until you are very close to them, no advance lane directions. The main entrance to the return garage was barricaded and a paper sign directed you to another entrance. This was a little stressful in the dark at 5:30 AM with very heavy traffic. The airport charges high fees for rentals and should improve things on their end.

WORST EVER CAR RENTAL EXPERIENCE!!! Pre-paid for a Standard sized SUV and received a Small SUV. It was not only smaller, but FILTHY INSIDE AND OUT when we got it. I immediately went back to the counter to tell the agents it was smaller and had not been cleaned and we needed a different vehicle. The two agents at the counter REFUSED to give us a different one (although the Budget website says that if you're not happy with the one they give you, they should give you a different one). They said "That's all we have." even though their lot was almost full. When I told them it had not been cleaned and looked as if it had just been turned in by the previous customer they said "Our car wash is busted right now and the rain is our car wash." The inside of the vehicle had dried liquid splatters completely covering the driver and passenger doors, the dashboard, console and steering wheel were dirty and dusty, there were food crumbs including chips, sunflower seeds and wooden coffee stirrers on the floorboards and in between the seats and there were bug splatters completely covering the front grill and fender of the car. When we insisted that we DID NOT want to pay or drive the vehicle they were renting us, they continued to make excuses and continued to say that's all they had. Because we had to drive almost two hours away to our destination and we were already running late, we had to take the vehicle that was given to us and drive it for 9 days. When we turned it it, was asked to speak to a manager and told him about our experience from start to finish. He also made excuses and offered a SMALL discount, which was NOT sufficient for the BAD CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE and SMALL, FILTHY VEHICLE we had to drive. WE WILL NEVER RENT FROM BUDGET CAR RENTAL AGAIN!!

First, the counter personnel were well trained, friendly, and efficient. Second, access to the rental center and the vehicle was easy. Third, the vehicle was clean, fully gassed, and the vehicle I reserved. Last but not least turn in was seem less. Overall an excellent experience!

Under inflated tires, One went completly flat. Car not cleaned at all, two other people rented this car before us. we found their paperwork. Found 8 lotto tickets. no windshield fluid. Linoleum knife found under passenger seat.
