Everything about our experience using U-haul for our cross-country move was first class! We loved that there was a free month of storage with our trailer rental. That helped us tremendously as we found and got settled into our new home. Great service from great people. 100% satisfied customers!

This place is runs by the feelings of the manager. If Tom is in a good mood, he gets things done. If he’s not he will find every excuse to get out simple tasks. Like not unlocking a unit when he has the keys on him. This place must be desperate for help. This place needs new management based on this months reviews alone. Both interactions I had with him start well and quickly decline. I’m paying $300 a month to get treated like an inconvenience.

You’ve got to be kidding me! This location was so busy and not nearly enough people working there. I dropped off my 26’ truck with the things I rented in the back. The girl took my keys and I told her there was not enough room to pull it into their return aisle and that I left it on the side of the road. She said fine, and that they would email my receipt. Big mistake. I should have demanded some sort of documentation of the time. Sure enough! I got a charge on my credit card for an extra day of rental on all the items and a missing item fee for $120. What?? Are you kidding me? Of course their too busy to answer their phone for me to dispute the charges!! Thankfully the customer service line was sympathetic and said they would contact the manager for a resolution. Now it’s going to take 72 hours for them to call back. Don’t bother with Commercial Street. I think Warren Ave is the way to go. At the very least they answer their phone.

This place is a mess. The older guy with the long beard was not very helpful when I had questions about a multi-day rental.

Hitch installed within an hour! Once there were made aware they had left me in their lobby for 6 hrs. Technician clearly skilled with installs! Desperate Need to Set expectations with clients before hand... waited in lobby with expectations of checking in at 8 am and having install done within 2 hrs of arriving. I have had hitches installed here before. after 4 hrs looked out into parking lot to see car still setting in the spot, not even a checked to verify that all parts and wiring was correct for the install. Staff was neutral but aloof. I listened to customer after customer come in looking for rentals and appointments and options/set expectations just were not given. Just sorry we don't have any or we can't do that. could say we could schedule that in advance or I've got some coming in at another location on this day...I mean come on. for myself just letting me know hey with this reservation we will still expect it to take the day and you should plan to drop it off and not wait. would have been better to know in advance. whoever was outback complaining the people were getting upset for lack of expectations and swearing at you...don't threaten to cancel their orders, how about communicate more effectively. that and discussing people personal orders for your waiting room to overhear is unprofessional. I'll be sure to take down some of that personal info your guy is blurting out and call those customers up and let them know I got that info from uhaul... For everyone, expect your install to be there all day. Biggest Takeaway..srry this has me so annoyed...

RACIST MANAGER. Do NOT go here. Please take your business elsewhere.
Tom is not suitable for a manager position or frankly any position where he is required to interact with others.
I witnessed him being very rude and aggressive with a customer that was having trouble understanding him. Tom’s method to resolve the miscommunication was to continually repeat the same sentence and increase his aggression every time he repeated it. It made me very uncomfortable.
The other employees seem great. They deserve better. We deserve better as customers.
We rent here regularly for our business but will be renting elsewhere in the future.
Tom, I believe you can do better. Please do a better job of being kind and patient with others. Best of luck.

RACISM AT UHAUL
On Saturday, 05/04 I witnessed a shocking racist hate incident at the Uhaul on Marginal Way in Portland, Maine.
As my daughter and I were completing the paperwork for our vehicle rental, the Uhaul representative in the next line began shouting loudly and rudely at his customer, an immigrant who was apparently having trouble communicating. The Uhaul representative's message to the customer was that if he wanted to do business at the facility, he needed to learn English or bring an interpreter. The way in which this customer was treated was shocking and upsetting. While I am not disputing the fact that there was a communication barrier between these two people, I think this situation could have and should have been handled calmly and respectfully.
After leaving the building, my daughter went to pick up the vehicle in the adjacent lot and I returned to the Uhaul office to check on the gentleman who was still attempting to complete his transaction. As I approached, I asked if there was anything I could do to help. The customer was trying to pay with his credit card while the Uhaul representative was shouting directions loudly . At this point I had a short conversation with the Uhaul representative , expressing my dismay at the way in which he was treating this customer. He maintained that because the customer had a soft voice, he was forced to speak loudly to communicate with him. A person who speaks softly is not necessarily deaf, are they? What a humiliating and unacceptable incident to witness.
The Uhaul representative was a large middle aged man with a long beard, dressed in Camo from head to toe. He told me that his name was Tom. In my opinion, Tom is not suited to be working in customer service and his racist attitude is a poor reflection on Uhaul. I hope that action is taken against the employee responsible for this racist hate incident.

They rip people off, by logging the trucks in later than they were returned! I will never go back to the UHaul on Warren Ave again! My truck was returned three and a half hours before it was due, and "Jordan V" charged for 3 days of usage for the truck and dolly! I rented the truck from 4/12 to 4/13. I returned my truck around 11:40 (after standing in line fur 10 minutes and the line of 6 people went nowhere. A guy from the back came and took my key. I asked if he wanted my receipt for the gas I put in, he said no, keep it. I stopped at the Big Apple across from the post office at 11:29. It didn't take me three and a half hours, to drive the 2 minutes GPS said the drive was!
They have minimal employees there. When I went to pick up my truck, I waited for 20, for an employee to come from the back. She was very short when I asked questions. Even trying to make small talk while I was waiting was really awkward.

Could you make the app work? The app wouldn't allow me to check out after hours, which cost me money because I had to pay for an associate to check out the truck. The app is supposedly designed to assist with this, but it failed to geolocate my location.

This was a FOUL experience! I rented a 15ft box truck, with the app, and upon arriving at 7am for pick up, I was treated rudely. "Just go on the app, just go on the app" was the answer for everything. I made the move, through two days of rain, only to discover upon unpacking that there was a hole in the roof (I could see daylight), and water was actively dripping onto photos, furniture, etc. I took video and photos for liability. I called Uhaul, who said I need to contact RepWest, their claims adjustors. Repwest said (in a form letter) SafeMove insurance doesn't cover water damage and that my claim was denied. I called Uhaul back who said, that's not our department, that's Repwest. Here's the kicker...Uhaul supervisor said, "We don't guarantee water-proof trucks, just WATER RESISTANT." This has been a horrible experience from start to finish. Uhaul, being a large corporation, has insulated themselves with Repwest, from ALL responsibility. A partial refund? No. A credit towards future rentals (of which I would surely be the fool to do)? No. Nothing. Forget all those stupid state bird/animal truck wraps they have...they should just put, Thanks for your money, suckers! NEVER EVER AGAIN. Call your old friend with a pick up. Push your worldly possessions on a skateboard before using Uhaul. I just pray that skateboard is waterproof! Businesses need to be accountable for their shoddy goods and services. Uhaul is a grave offender.
