About Irvine Nature Center

Irvine Nature Center is the largest independent non-profit nature center in the region, known for its focus on environmental education for both children and adults. It offers hundreds of programs annually, including a fully licensed Nature Preschool, a popular Summer Nature Camp, and various outdoor activities. The center spans 211 acres, featuring over 8 miles of well-maintained hiking trails through woodlands, wetlands, and meadows. The trails are covered with wood chip mulch, which is sourced from their own trees, and are regularly maintained by their arborist team, who clear fallen branches to keep the paths safe. The center is home to over 50 animal ambassadors, including birds cared for in their bird motel and birds in permanent residence due to severe injuries. Visitors can see these birds and learn about wildlife rehabilitation, with guides sharing educational stories like the importance of leaving fallen nestlings undisturbed. The center also features outdoor classrooms, kid-sized picnic tables, and a bird enclosure, making it a great place for young children to explore and run around. While some indoor exhibits and the visitor center are currently closed for renovation, the butterfly house is open during specified hours, and the outdoor areas remain accessible. Visitors appreciate the friendly staff, engaging programs, and the opportunity to experience nature firsthand. Overall, Irvine Nature Center is a welcoming place for families, nature lovers, and anyone interested in learning about the environment through fun and educational activities.
