Rodgers Tavern Museum

Hours: Rodgers Tavern Museum is an interesting historic property. The building was a tavern during the first part of its life, owned by the Thomas family and run by the Rodgers. It offers a nice bit of local history to take in. Various Revolutionary War figures passed through these doors, such as Washington and Lafayette, so it is worth walking across the floorboards, though much of nothing in the property is original. The friendly staff provide engaging tours and are knowledgeable about the history, clarifying that whether John Rodgers is really the founder of the U.S. Navy is debatable and that he definitely was not born there as the outside signage declares. The tavern is a good stop if walking in the area, but many would not put it high on the list or make a special trip. Its location provides access to an easy walking, paved trail that runs through Perry Point to the Perryville Community Park or, in the other direction, parallel with the river for a short distance, offering a good view once passing by the townhouses. The Boxcar ice cream place is also very close by.
